FLSA:ExemptQUALIFICATIONS:As set forth in Louisiana Standards for State Certification of School Personnel (Bulletin 746) REPORTS TO: School Principal SUPERVISES: Teacher Aide JOB GOAL: To provide experiences to remediate, rehabilitate handicaps resultingfrom deficits through a total approach to involve teaching of educationalsubjects, physical and motor activities, speech and language development, and social skills as an improvement that will assist each child to take his place in school and life TERM: Nine Months SALARY: NIne Month Teacher Salary Schedule PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:I. Instructional Responsibilities A. Prior to the opening of the school year, to become familiar with education guides,materials, the students' individual folders or records, and equipment as evidenced by thestudents' IEP's and teacher lesson plansB.

To prepare and make available to the principal or designated person each child's IEP andanticipated weekly plansC. To prepare and devise a specific number of instructional periods for each individual childas needed and indicated in the child's IEPD. To attempt to remediate deficits through the teaching of needed skills as indicated in eachchild's Individual Evaluation and IEPE.

To develop or update each child's IEP annually as mandated by IDEA and Louisiana Act754F. To review short term objectives on each child's IEP and submit a copy of the report tothe child's parent every six weeksG. To maintain individual files of each student's work and test results II.

ManagementA. To regularly create and maintain a physical environment that is conducive to learningincluding attractive and meaningful bulletin boards, appropriate seating arrangements,proper ventilation and illumination, etc., as evidenced by functional learning areaB. To develop and maintain reasonable rules for the care of school properties, physical facilities and all equipment as evidenced by periodic inspections, inventories and reports submitted to the principal or designated personC.

To utilize available curriculum materials, equipment and facilities frequently in the teaching process as evidenced by the individual child's IEP and lesson plansD. To be responsible for maintaining student discipline and safety at all times as evidenced by the adherence to state and local regulationsE. To perform supervisory duties on a timely basis as necessitated and/or designated by theprincipal or designated person as evidenced by actual performanceF.

To maintain accurate attendance, financial, and other records as evidenced by information in the teacher role book and other assigned reports submitted tot he SPECIAL EDUCATIONdepartment and to the parentsG. To report to respective schools prior to the first full day of operations for the purpose oforientation and preparation of the classroom as directed by principal or designated person and evidenced by actual attendance and classroom appearanceH. To maintain current records and submit required reports, IEP's, and requests for re-evaluations to appropriate personnel at the J.

To attend inservice workshops as mandated by local policies or legislative acts asevidenced by attendanceB. To participate in self-developmental activities, such as active membership in professionalorganizations, attendance at meetings, workshops, conventions, etc., whenever possible,and to continuously upgrade the position of the SPECIAL EDUCATION teacher as evidenced byactual participationC. To promote the educational process as evidenced by the sharing of ideas and materials ofother staff membersD.

To work in professional harmony with staff members, school administrators and with IEPcommittees as evidenced by positive reportsE. To use available means to keep abreast of new trends, techniques and teaching strategiesas evidenced by teaching methods employed (Post graduate work is encouraged) IV. Public RelationsA.

To meet with parents, students and staff members and conduct IEP committee meetingsB. To participate in at least one school sponsored activity annuallyC. To strive to uplift the image of public education on a regular basis V.

To establish and execute a professional growth and self-evaluation planVI. To work effectively with school personnel and staffVII. To consistently demonstrate self-directionVIII.

To submit accurate records and reports promptlyIX. To exhibit professional ethicsX. To foster open communication and positive relationships with school personnel and staffXI.

To foster open communication and positive relationships with the communityXII. To perform all other duties or responsibilities not listed as delegated by the principal of the school or designated personXIII. To follow state, school board, and school policiesXIV.

To teach in accordance with the Louisiana Components of Effective Teaching. Domains and Components will be used for teacher evaluation in conjunction with measures of student growth. Measures of student growth will be aligned with the Rapides Parish Personnel Evaluation Plan as outlined in the Louisiana Accountability System.

Domain 1: Planning and Preparation - 1C-Setting Instructional OutcomesThe teacher values, sequences and aligns curriculum enabling students to build theirunderstanding of important ideas from concept to concept.The teacher designs and structures lessons so that learner outcomes are at an appropriatecognitive level.The teacher writes and plans multi-disciplinary outcomes for student learning, not student activity.The teacher differentiates outcomes and instruction for students of varied abilities.The teacher creates and/or uses a variety of assessment tools that are curriculum-aligned and challenging. Domain 2:The Classroom Environment - 2C-Managing Classroom ProceduresThe teacher helps students to develop skills to work purposefully and cooperatively in groups.The teacher facilitates lessons that engage students in different types of activities-large groups, small groups and independent work.The teacher ensures smooth functioning of all routines and maximizes instructional time. Domain 3: Instruction - 3B-Questioning and Discussion TechniquesThe teacher develops and presents questions that cause students to think and reflect; resulting in a deeper understanding of the topic.The teacher promotes learning through discussion.The teacher uses a range of techniques to ensure that all students contribute to the discussion and enlists the assistance of students to ensure this outcome.Instruction - 3C-Engaging Students in LearningThe teacher facilitates activities and assignments that promote learning and are aligned with the goals of the lesson.The teacher groups students for instruction in a variety of ways using factors such as similar backgrounds, ability levels, as well as random groupings.The teacher selects instructional materials suited to engaging students in understanding and learning at a deeper level.The teacher delivers lessons that are appropriately structured and paced.

Instruction - 3D-Using Assessment in InstructionThe teacher aligns assessment to the curriculum.The teacher informs students of the criteria for assessment.The teacher monitors student learning using a variety of techniques.The teacher will provide valuable feedback in a timely, constructive and substantive manner.The teacher will promote student self-assessment and student self-monitoring of their progress.Professionalism CompetencyThe teacher demonstrates good attendance.The teacher demonstrates a pattern of following local, district and state policies and procedures.The individual demonstrates a pattern of interacting with students, colleagues, parents/guardians,and community members in a respectful manner.
