Special Education Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
Position Summary:
This position works collaboratively with school staff to help support better understanding of behavior management and to implement strategies to reduce students' challenging behaviors. This includes both Single Student Services and Classroom Coaching. Single Student Services includes conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments and assisting school staff in the development of research and function-based Behavioral Intervention Plans. Classroom Coaching is provided to increase educators' knowledge, skills and confidence with student behavior to ensure best practices are in place.
Essential Duties:
  • Conduct functional behavior assessments including records review, classroom observations, and interviews with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents, and others.
  • Create written reports documenting the results of the assessment and review with administrators, teachers, paraprofessionals, parents and others.
  • Conduct reinforcement preference assessments when necessary.
  • Design data sheets and use data collection methods that are minimally intrusive on teacher time and effort as much as practicable.
  • Monitor for accuracy of data collection and implementation of behavior intervention plans and provide feedback.
  • Analyze data and make changes to the behavior intervention plans as required.
  • Provide classroom coaching to staff (e.g., teachers, administrators, support employees, related service providers etc. ) that promotes the implementation of evidence-based practices that improve student behavior.
  • Collect and analyze behavior data in an effort to evaluate the effectiveness of district programs and practices.
  • Model core organizational beliefs and values; communicate openly and effectively within and across teams to maximize student success.
  • Serve as liaison with professionals, the community, parents and agencies regarding Special Education laws, procedures, policies, programs and placement.
  • Assist the Office of Exceptional Student Services Leadership Team in monitoring local plan implementation, legal compliance and data collection.
  • Establish and maintain professional communication with parents, students, and district personnel; ensure that all interactions are supportive, courteous, and respectful.
  • Attend and participate in department meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Pursue professional development activities that align with district goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and district board policy in the areas of assessment, placement, and planning for and providing Special Education services.
  • Comply with all district and local campus routines and regulations, and verbal and written directives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required):
  • Masters degree in applied behavior sciences, psychology, education or other related field
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA®)
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience working with school-aged children with moderate to severe disabilities, autism and related disorders, or other developmental delays
  • Experience and training in performance of functional behavior assessments and the development of behavior intervention plans based on the science of Applied Behavior Analysis.
  • Preferred experience in supervising of others in the provision of interventions
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the community.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with others, demonstrate self-discipline and initiative, follow state and district guidelines.
  • Skills in mediation and facilitation of group and/or individual problems to resolution.

  • Physical agility, able to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs, walk and reach
  • Ability to lift, push, pull up to 50 pounds
