Job description

POSITION:  Band Director    
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 
10 month employee - temporary for the school year      
 
REPORTS TO:  Principal
 
SALARY:  Current Teacher Salary Schedule
 
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develops and plans rehearsals that will provide a variety of literature for the purpose of developing the students' understanding of band music.
  • Selects and recommends appropriate materials, equipment, and instructional aids for the school's band program.
  • Ability to teach music elective courses for both instrument and non-instrument playing students (ex:  Drum Line, Jazz Band, Music Appreciation)
  • Develops and plans rehearsals that will provide a variety of literature in order to develop the students' understanding of jazz music.
  • Communicates with parents regarding their student's progress.
  • Ability to teach and organize marching band.
  • Cooperates with the school administration in providing a quality band program for all students.
  • Provides leadership and organization when planning and executing school concerts, recitals, and other musical performances.
  • Provides leadership in the planning and execution of the spring music department trip.
  • Keeps accurate financial records for all school and student accounts.
  • Provides leadership of extracurricular musical activities in the school and community.
  • Works closely with the middle school band program to ensure a smooth transition to the high school band program.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect the student's and school's equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Enforces all school rules and policies as outlined in the teacher handbook.
  • Cooperates and communicates with other teachers to provide a quality fine arts department for all students.
  • Provides a positive image for students and the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the principal.

Qualifications:
  • Must hold or be eligible to hold a State of Delaware Certificate for music/Band Director.
  • Teaching experience (preferred)
  • Strong content knowledge of music.
  • Teacher who is designated Highly Qualified in music preferred.

Standard Requirements:
  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the candidate who is offered employment
  • Tuberculin Test and physical
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck
