Job description

POSITION: Food Services - Food Service Assistant, 1 hour per day, 12:50-1:50pm. LOCATION: Ellensburg High School REPORTS TO: Child Nutrition Director JOB SUMMARY: Provide Child Nutrition services to our students and staff by preparing and serving meals according to USDA, OSPI and Health Department regulations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Contributing to a positive school climate by maintaining a high level of professionalism and interacting with students, staff and co-workers in a positive manner.Work as a team member with an inclusive mentality.Collecting payments for food items during breakfast and lunch from students and staff (e.g.

cash & checks); maintaining related data in the Meal Time Computer System; and providing accurate recording and reporting of all transactions.Reconciling daily receipts and cash box, and preparing bank deposits in an accurate and timely manner.Overseeing students as they enter their identification numbers and or scan badges into the computer system, and providing assistance as needed.Forwarding all Free and Reduced Applications to the Food Service Director.Understanding what constitutes a "reimbursable" meal as required by the Federal guidelines for participation in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs.Monitoring the inventory of cashier supplies and submitting orders to the Central Kitchen as needed.Checking e-mail communications for updates from Kitchen Manager or Child Nutrition Director twice a day. Operating, maintaining and cleaning equipment, machinery and appliances (i.e., dishwasher, oven, freezer, food warmer steam table), and reporting equipment malfunctions for the purpose of maintaining equipment in safe working order.Heating foods according to recipes.Stock and maintain salad bars in accordance with department procedure. Serving food items for the purpose of meeting mandated nutritional requirements and/or requests of students and school personnel.Inspecting food items and/or supplies for the purpose of verifying quantity, quality and specifications or orders and/or complying with mandated health requirements.Cleaning and organizing utensils, equipment, storage and food preparation and serving areas for the purpose of maintaining sanitary conditions.Wash reusable lunch trays at breakfast and lunch and ensure a cleaned and dried stock sufficient to serve all students is on hand at each meal time.Maintaining an inventory of dry storage, refrigerated and frozen food, condiments, etc., for the purposes of ensuring availability of items as specified on the menu, and ordering supplies as needed.Processing delivery of supplies and equipment from Metro Driver and milkman as needed.Preparing and maintaining accurate records and production reports in regard to the preparation and serving of meals and "reimbursable meals".Training Food Service/Child Nutrition substitutes for the Server and Cashier Positions.Practicing regulations instituted by the National School Lunch Programs.Maintaining strict confidentiality concerning student/family National Lunch Program Benefit status.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assisting where needed or directed by the Food Service/Child Nutrition Director. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Must qualify to work in the proximity of children under the conditions of a WSP/FBI background checkMust possess and maintain a valid Washington State Food Handler's PermitAs the job functions will require repetitive lifting and stretching motions, you must be able to pass a doctor's physical examination showing that you have the ability to: Lift and carry 10 to 50 lbs. frequentlyAssist with lifting over 75 lbs.

occasionallyLoad and unload products from vehicles of various heights from 3 to 5 feetUse push and pull methods to move products around work areaStore products requiring arm extension, straight and overhead reaching, kneeling, bending, squatting, twisting, and turningUse repetitive motions involved with food preparation and cleaning processes, including using hands and wrist repeatedly for grasping, cutting, and lifting food and equipment, and taking fully loaded trays of food in and out of commercial size ovensWork from an awkward position to accomplish cleaning of equipmentBe on feet the majority of the work shiftBe of general good health QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters in an ethical manner.Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships and interact positively with all school district staff, students and parents.Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently, take initiative, recognize and adjust priorities as needed, and meet strict deadlines in a fast paced environment.Demonstrated strong interpersonal and organizational skills.Demonstrated ability to produce, organize and maintain accurate records.Demonstrated ability to work with large sums of money in an efficient and accurate manner.Demonstrated high level of computer proficiency and application of technology.Demonstrated ability and willingness to fill any position in Food Services when necessary.Bilingual skills preferred.
