Job description

Machine Operator 1st & 2nd Shift

Purpose of the Position:

This position is responsible for working in the plant to set up, operate various plant machines in different areas of the plant, including our automated or manual lines for Prisma, the big squeeze machine, the monster machine, any bonding stations, wire station in assembly as well as Bead Blaster in the Components, using various tools, both manual and automatic, various measuring devices, PPE, respirators, chemicals, and machines. This position reports to the area Coordinator and Production Supervisor.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Maintains logs and records of units received and shipped within the SAP software, including rejected/discarded materials.
  • Utilize SAP Software for moving in-process materials & finished materials into and out of inventory.
  • Perform- pre-operational equipment, preventative maintenance tasks, and process inspections.
  • Perform quality and safety functions per the Quality and Safety Program schedules.
  • Follow protocols & procedures outlined in the safety and operations manuals.
  • Report maintenance and quality opportunities with area shift coordinator &/or Production Supervisors.
  • Provide mentorships and training to new hires.
  • Maintains a clean, safe and orderly work area.

Machine Operator Specific Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Inspect & document all types of materials, chemicals and items coming into the plant, in accordance & compliance with customer specifications and quality control.
  • Observe continuous operation of automatic and manual machines to ensure that products meet specifications and to detect jams or malfunctions, adjusting as necessary.
  • Measure and visually inspect products for surface and dimension defects to ensure conformance to specifications, using prevision measuring instruments.
  • Set up, operate or tend metal, plastic, fiberglass, molding, casting or core making machines to mold or cast metal, foam, plastic, electrical or fiberglass parts.
  • Remove finished or cured products from dies or molds, using hand tools, air hoses and other equipment, stamping identifying information on products when necessary.
  • Position and secure workpieces on machines and start feeding mechanisms.
  • Trim excess materials from parts, using knives, or other tools as required.
  • Cool products after processing to prevent distortion.
  • Mix and measure compounds, or weigh premixed compounds, and utilize appropriate molds, machines, etc.
  • Turn valves and dials of machines to regulate pressure, temperate and speed and feed rates and to set cycle times.
  • Spray, or coat molds with compounds to lubricate or insulate molds using sprayers.
  • Read specifications, blueprints and work orders to determine setups, temperatures and timing settings required to mold, form or cast foam, fiberglass, plastic or metal components.
  • Unload finished products from various in-process actions and place materials where needed.
  • Operate hoists, cranes, or other moving or lifting equipment.
  • Smooth and clean inner surfaces of molds, parts and other items, using brushes, scrapers, air hoses, or grinding wheels and fill imperfections with material as necessary.
  • Obtain and move specified patterns to workstations, manually or using hoists and secure patterns to machines using wrenches.
  • Perform maintenance work such as cleaning and oiling machines.
  • Select and install blades, tools or other attachments for each operation.
  • Build production molds.
  • Install electrical components for refrigerated vans, using various tools.
  • Coordinate all DOT inspections necessary in final process.
  • Repair or replace machine parts, using hand tools, or notify area coordinator and/or production supervisor as required.
  • Maintain stocks of machine parts and machining tools needed in area to perform job.
  • Support other in process areas as necessary.
  • Inspect machinery per inspection schedule and clean/upkeep equipment/forklifts as needed.
  • Follow all workplace safety guidelines.

  • Available for overtime on a scheduled or call-in/call-back basis, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the manager/supervisor.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Self-motivated with ability to allow constructive feedback to grow in position.
  • (6) months working experience as an operator in a manufacturing/production facility preferred.
  • Ability to follow proper quality and workplace safety procedures and requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 pounds and stand for an extended period of time.
  • An established track record of reliability.
  • Mechanically inclined, drive yourself to continually grow and develop your role.
  • Ability to adapt and accommodated to change.
  • Detail oriented.

1st- 4:00am-12:30pm

1st- 6:00am-2:30pm

2nd- 2:30pm-11:00pm

This job operates within a manufacturing plant environment. Safety, environmental and health concerns may demand constant attention. While performing the duties for this job inside the plant, the employee is frequently exposed to normal working conditions for a manufacturing plant with a noise level that is moderate to loud noise. The roles defined through Wabash may routinely use machinery equipment, forklifts, computers as well as laboratory instrumentation and tools, both manual and automatic.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to stand for extended periods of time as well as use hands or fingers to reach or handle, and to reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 or more pounds. All vision abilities are required to encompass close-up work. On occasion, employees must be able to tolerate and endure extended seasonal hours and maintain alertness to meet deadlines.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to machinery and moving parts, airborne particles including grain dust and hazardous materials or fumes, which may require the use of PPE. The employee may be exposed to adverse weather conditions, extreme temperature changes in the plant from normal temperatures to above normal temperatures, extended seasonal hours, high precarious places and confined spaces. The noise level in some of the work environments may require the use of hearing protection.
