The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office is located in beautiful Colorado Springs, Colorado. The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office is committed to our community and our mission to administer justice, advocate for victims, and partner with law enforcement and citizens in this community for the deterrence and prevention of crime. The office has a staff of 225 employees comprised of attorneys, investigators, and support personnel.
The 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office has trained future prosecutors who have developed into leaders within our Office and moved on to successful careers in other District Attorneys' Offices all over Colorado for more than thirty years. We provide aspiring attorneys with an unparalleled opportunity to gain experience in the courtroom. Our interns learn how to be ethical, fair, and professional attorneys. Our internships provide hands-on opportunities to learn whether you have what it takes to be a prosecutor, all under the guidance of our prosecution staff. Former attorney interns make up about 20% of our current lawyers. Our Internship Program at the 4th Judicial District Attorney's Office is a training ground for first, second, and third-year law school students looking for experience as prosecutors. We offer a variety of opportunities and positions based on your year in law school.
1Ls will have the opportunity to gain experience in a busy prosecution office, including working in both District Court (Felony) and County Court (Misdemeanors and Traffic). 1L interns spend most of their time working in District Court. They are paired with an experienced Senior Deputy District Attorney who manages a team of felony level prosecutors. Interns will assist in court proceedings, conduct legal research and writing, work on at least one major case, and observe the problem-solving courts and felony jury trials. In addition, our 1L interns spend some time assisting in County Court and learning about our 2L/3L Internship Program.
This opportunity can be experienced as a summer internship or semester in practice. Most positions withing the 1L internship program are unpaid.
Our recruitment begins in November for the following summer. Students interested in "semester in practice" opportunities are encouraged to apply as soon as possible. We value the work and effort of our interns. They are trained and treated as professional, practicing prosecutors. With this model, we routinely make job offers, contingent on admission to the Colorado Bar, to successful 2L and 3L interns before graduation.
