Job description

We are currently seeking a dynamic and dedicated Long-Term Substitute High School Physics Teacher to join our team.

Key Responsibilities:Curriculum Development: Design and implement comprehensive and engaging physics curriculum which is both district-approved and aligns with state standards and prepares students for advanced coursework. Actively participates in curriculum goal planning and collaborates on relevant student performance objectives. Guides the learning process towards achieving curriculum goals, articulating clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects, while assisting students in developing individual learning goals.Classroom Instruction: Deliver effective and interactive lessons that cater to diverse learning styles, needs, and abilities of students, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.

Adheres to state and federal special education regulations outlined in the IDEA and 603 CMR 28.00. Follows the standards and indicators outlined in the Reading Public Schools Teacher Assessment Process (TAP) to the best of their ability.Lab Activities: Conduct hands-on experiments and lab activities to reinforce theoretical concepts, encouraging students to explore and apply physics principles in real-world scenarios.Assessment and Feedback: Develop and administer assessments to evaluate student understanding, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their academic growth. Creates instructional materials, activities, and lesson plans, incorporating modifications and accommodations suitable for individual students, considering cognitive levels and age appropriateness.

Evaluates individual student progress, records accomplishments, and adjusts learning activities accordingly. Identifies pupil needs, makes referrals, and devises strategies for individual education plans. Provides support to students dealing with academic, personal, and social challenges.Technology Integration: Incorporate technology and innovative teaching methods to enhance the learning experience, preparing students for a technology-driven world.Collaboration: Collaborate with colleagues to share best practices, participate in professional development opportunities, and contribute to the overall success of the science department.

Collaborates with guidance specialists, staff members, parents, and external entities to address students' special needs.Parent and Community Engagement: Establish open lines of communication with parents through newsletters, notes, phone calls, and conferences, keeping them informed about student progress and involving them in their child's educational journey. Remains available to students and parents for education-related matters outside the regular instructional day.Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Physics, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).Massachusetts teacher licensure in Physics or the ability to obtain certification.Demonstrated passion for teaching and a commitment to student success.Strong knowledge of physics concepts and the ability to communicate them effectively to High School students.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Experience with diverse teaching methods, including project-based learning and inquiry-based instruction.Technologically proficient, with the ability to integrate technology into the classroom.

Supervisory Responsibilities:Supervises the classroom and students Physical Demands:Regular movement throughout the school to provide services.Occasional traversal throughout the school building.Stationary position for extended periods.Occasional reaching with hands and arms, sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.Frequent use of hands for tasks such as typing and handling tools.Ability to input information into a computer and read material from various sources.Effective communication with students, parents, and staff in person and over the telephone.Continuous seeing and hearing in the classroom for student safety and instruction.Occasional need to move quickly across even or uneven surfaces. Work Environment:Normal school environment with an acceptable level of noise.Interaction with students, parents, and staff members.Direct responsibility for the safety, well-being, and work output of students.Majority of the work day spent inside, but occasional outdoor time for fire drills and special activities.
