Zoning Clerk
This position is responsible for zoning administrative work in the Township Zoning Department. An employee in this position is responsible for performing of clerical tasks in support of the Zoning Department. Duties are performed under the supervision and direction of the Zoning Inspector/Planning Coordinator and Assistant Zoning Inspector.
Essential Functions and Duties
- Provide general service to customers of the Zoning Department
- Answer incoming telephone calls and direct callers to the appropriate personnel.
- Accept and distribute zoning applications to the proper office and customer.
- Act as the Secretary to the Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals and attend applicable meetings of those bodies.
- Schedule and prepare notices, agendas, and other application materials for meetings and public hearings.
- Distribute meeting packets to Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals members as needed.
- Schedule Zoning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals alternates when necessary.
- Assist other Zoning Department personnel with correspondences and other administrative duties.
Additional Examples of Work Performed
- Record complaints from the public and report them to the Zoning Inspector/Planning Coordinator or Assistant Zoning Inspector.
- Sort and distribute mail as needed.
- Assist in the performance of various clerical duties, such as filing, typing and the preparation of various reports.
- Assist in filing office correspondence and record-keeping.
- Perform other related duties, including administrative support of Administration Department personnel, as directed.

- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with Township officials, supervisory personnel, fellow employees, other Township employees and the public.
- Ability to maintain records efficiently and accurately and to prepare reports in a neat, concise, and accurate manner.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as a personal computer, computer applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and social media, copier, fax machine, telephone, and general office equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to work under the supervision of the Zoning Inspector/Planning Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Graduation from a standard high school or the equivalent, supplemented by some experience in general clerical or receptionist work; or any combination of training and experience which provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Maintain a valid driver's license and remain insurable.
- Possess or have the ability to obtain a notary license within one year of employment.
- Ability to be insurable by the Township's liability insurance company.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.50 - $21.16 per hour
