Job Brief:
SBX Youth & Family Services is seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Development Worker to join our team. This role involves directly working with young people, providing support, mentoring, and implementing programs that promote their personal, social, and educational development. The ideal candidate will be a positive role model with a deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of youth.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, organize, and deliver a range of educational and social activities for young people, ensuring that these are safe, engaging, and beneficial.
- Will co-facilitate the Rites of Passage program for youth.
- Have an understanding of the African American community, have knowledge of the culture, and experience working with youth and their families.
- Knowledge of and expertise in African culture and an Africentric perspective.
- Establish and maintain positive and supportive relationships with youth, acting as a mentor and role model.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues, parents, and community organizations to support the holistic development of the youth.
- Facilitate group sessions and workshops on topics such as life skills, education, health, and career planning.
- Identify the needs of individual youth and groups, and adapt programs and activities to meet these needs.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of youth programs and activities, making adjustments as necessary.
- Maintain accurate records and reports on youth participation and progress.
- Ensure all activities comply with relevant legislation, policies, and best practices for safeguarding and child protection.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
- Proven experience in youth development, counseling, or a similar role.
- Strong understanding of the challenges and needs of young people from diverse backgrounds.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to connect and build trust with young people.
- Ability to plan, organize, and facilitate engaging activities and programs.
- Knowledge of child protection and safeguarding practices.
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to meet the needs of the youth and program schedules.
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation to attend off-site programs and events.
- Valid vehicle insurance and registration

Pay: $21.00 per hour
Expected hours: 30 per week

- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
