ABOUT ATLANTA GLOW

Founded in 2014, Atlanta Growing Leadership Of Women (GLOW)'s mission is to encourage, educate and equip young, low-income women to be thriving, self-sustaining leaders and effective agents of economic growth within their communities. Atlanta GLOW is a faith-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves low-income young women and/or young women of color, ages 14-25, by providing mentoring, leadership development, and job and life skills training to ignite each young woman’s potential and equip her with the tools to take action and thrive in her home, school, workplace and community.

 POSITION SUMMARY

Small, passionate, and community-rooted groups like Atlanta GLOW are better able to connect with, persuade, and mobilize voters than impersonal and inefficient television advertising. This is one of a few reasons why Atlanta GLOW is a proud partner of Clean and Prosperous America (CaPA). Through the provision of philanthropy, capacity building and landscape research, CaPA supports grassroots organizations to do direct voter engagement work in strategically-targeted districts. Research further tells us that high levels of civic health correspond with lower crime rates, better public health outcomes, and greater economic resilience, particularly during economic downturns. To this end, Atlanta GLOW’s EmpowHer the Vote initiative aims to empower and mobilize young, female voters of color across metro Atlanta communities to participate in the democratic process through civic engagement and by casting their votes. With a focus on educating and engaging the female youth of color in the upcoming elections, this get-out-the-vote (GOTV) initiative seeks to increase voter turnout and encourage informed decision-making among this vital demographic.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting as early as April 2024, fellows will be expected to dedicate up to 20 hours per month up through the November 2024 general election. Fellows will receive a monthly stipend of up to $300, based on the fulfillment of the monthly performance goals and hence payout is contingent upon successful demonstration of progress met (e.g., regular social media postings, successful recruitment of voter pledges, voter registration applications submitted, proof of GOTV outreach event facilitation). If there is a runoff election, additional hours and earnings may be granted if interested in continuing the ambassadorship.

Easy and impactful, this fellowship opportunity is a great resume builder and/or experience to lift up in your college applications. EmpowHer the Vote fellows will receive everything they need to succeed in the role including voter registration training, relational organizing and mobilization toolkit, communications scripts and social media tools, event materials and posters, and access to information and resources to deploy youth-oriented voter engagement tactics. Atlanta GLOW is excited to support fellows in the facilitation of these GOTV activities by providing access to signage, table cloths, copies, social media scripts, and limited financial support for direct event-related costs. Through the completion of this fellowship, you can gain valuable experience in civic engagement and community organizing, enhance your leadership and communication skills and make a positive impact on your campus or in your community by fostering a culture of civic responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Atlanta GLOW is looking for dynamic high school and college ambassadors to join our EmpowHer the Vote fellowship as part of our youth-oriented leadership and civic engagement efforts. In this role as voting ambassadors, fellows will contribute to Atlanta GLOW's get-out-the-vote initiatives by promoting civic and voter engagement within their school communities. This will entail deploying creative relational organizing strategies including hosting voter registration drives, conducting community outreach, leading phone and text banking efforts, and creating social media campaigns leading up to the 2024 primary and general elections. The fellows’ essential duties and responsibilities will include (some tasks may vary from month-to-month):

  • With support and training from Atlanta GLOW, planning and implementing a GOTV strategy geared towards encouraging young women, ages 18-25 to register and cast their vote in the upcoming elections.
  • Posting online to personal social media channels a minimum of twice per week and tagging @AtlantaGLOW in all posts for duration of fellowship.
  • Recruiting distinct voter pledges by reaching out to family, friends, and peers via text, email and/or outreach events.
  • Creating a creative 2-5 minute video around the importance of getting young people out to vote to showcase on the Atlanta GLOW social media channels. The format can be an interview with other youth, a skit/dramatization, poem, or a simple open monologue.
  • Planning and hosting a variety of GOTV outreach events on school campus, church, work, or in the community on any date(s) up until Election Day (e.g., watch parties, voter registration drive, vendor tabling, club presentations, postcard writing parties).
  • Organizing and executing voter registration drives and registering new voters on campus or within the community through any of the means described established above.
  • Developing and delivering informative sessions on the importance of voting, electoral processes, and the significance of civic participation.
  • Staying abreast of local, state, and national election information to provide accurate and relevant voter education.
  • Work collaboratively with the team to develop and implement phone and text banking initiatives which encourage active participation in democratic processes.
  • Utilize various communication channels, including social media, literature drops, posters, and announcements, to reach youth audiences.

QUALIFICATIONS AND COMPETENCIES

  • Must be an eligible voter in the state of Georgia between 18-25 years old.
  • Current enrollment as a high school or college student with a passion for civic engagement required.
  • Must be committed to the idea that every vote counts.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about voter registration processes and election-related information.
  • Cannot have a familial relationship with any candidate on any Georgia ballot.
  • Since Atlanta GLOW is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, fellows must agree to remain nonpartisan and NOT express any political opinions in the facilitation of their fellowship duties.
  • Excellent technology, presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Experience in social media applications.
  • Ability to work with and engage individuals of diverse backgrounds.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to manage time efficiently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to take a collaborative, team-oriented approach.

Atlanta GLOW desires to work with individuals who are highly organized, self-motivated, resourceful, and detail-oriented and who can follow deadlines, juggle multiple tasks, take initiative, and manage their own workload. As our environment is highly collaborative, we also require individuals with the ability to communicate in a professional manner, who carry a positive attitude and possess good listening skills. Close proximity to Marietta, Georgia and/or Cobb County will also be a strong consideration.

No phone calls, emails or office visits please. Atlanta GLOW will contact applicants directly if selected for an interview.
