Class Specifications
The primary function of an employee in this class is to set up for and officiate at designated sports. The position is under the direct supervision of a Recreation Supervisor or Recreation Coordinator, although some latitude is allowed for independent judgment and initiative. The principal duties of the position are performed in a public sports field environment.
Examples of Work Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sets up equipment for and officiates at designated athletic games;
- Supervises competition, including spectators and participants, during events;
- Cleans up and closes facility after events;
- Performs all work duties and activities in accordance City policies, procedures and safety practices.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs duties for co-workers in their absence;
- Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of:
- Rules, regulations, officiating techniques, and scorekeeping for designated sports;
- Basic equipment maintenance and repair methods;
- Dispute mediation and resolution.
Ability to:
- Communicate effectively with participants, spectators, coaches, other City employees, and the public.
Acceptable Experience and Training
- One (1) to two (2) years experience in activities being officiated; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.
