Job description

The City of Bellevue is seeking a positive, energetic individual to work in a variety of sports and recreation programs with youth ages 5-13. Coaches will be responsible for supervising and leading Youth Sports and recreation programs, coaching youth basketball and/or soccer teams, and communicating with the parents/guardians of the program participants. Experience working with sports & recreation programs and diverse elementary and middle school aged youth is desired.
Work hours will range from 4-10 hours per week (afternoons and evenings) and can be flexible based on availability. Location of position will vary based on program. Most common sites are Tyee Community Gym and Robinswood Park between 3:30pm and 7:00pm.

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include any combination of the following tasks:

  • Oversee program/activity participants; provide instruction, direction and assistance as needed.
  • Design, implement and facilitate assigned program activities and events or other program components.
  • Ensure program/facility rules, policies and procedures are followed; maintain and enforce safety standards.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and storage of program equipment.
  • Assist with program and event registration; preparing reports, assist program staff with various administrative support tasks.
  • May work in more than one assignment in the department.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • A demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning of diversity, equity & inclusion principles and a commitment to implement these principles in your work.
  • General knowledge of specific sports fundamentals and games (basketball, soccer, flag football, kickball, ultimate frisbee, tag, capture the flag, etc.).
  • Experience working with youth and teenage participants.

  • Assist with program preparation, setup and take down.

  • Must pass criminal background check prior to being hired.

  • May be required to work evenings and occasional weekends.

  • Work may be physically demanding or require strenuous activity (participation in athletics, lifting heavy equipment, etc.).
  • Job tasks involve work with youth of such a nature that the employee may be called on to make physical interventions, load vans, etc.
  • The employee may be required to push, pull, lift, and/or carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Work will be performed indoors and outdoors, dependent on season.
