Youth Progress seeks a collaborative and trauma-informed Skills Trainer to join our team. The person who accepts this position provides milieu and community enrichment and engagement for clients receiving services in the Learning Center and Community Collective programs. This person will work closely with the program managers on all enrichment and recreational activities for all Learning Center and Community Collective young people. Enrichment activities with the young people include but are not limited to art, sports, and social recreation. As a team member, this position sets the tone for young people, leading by example and guiding young people through enrichment activities that teach life skills and encourage healthy and safe behaviors and engagement. This position is split between the Learning Center and Community Collective programs. Hours are typically 9 am - 5 pm.

Job Responsibilities:

Individualized Engagement & Supervision:

  • Help young people regulate their emotions proactively and identify when to provide additional support.
  • Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on-site and in the community as required.
  • Transport young people to and from group activities, sometimes after 5 p.m.

Enrichment & Engagement:

  • Support group curriculum and utilize approved therapeutic interventions and strategies. Create daily opportunities for young people to participate in recreational and prosocial activities.
  • Independently run group skill-building activities. Track youth progress and understanding of the material.
  • Develop the term-by-term recreational and engagement activities/curriculum, including onsite and offsite events.
  • Be a cultural leader by maintaining a calm, positive, professional presence.
  • Help young persons regulate their emotions proactively and identify when to provide additional support. Ensure the safety of young people by providing supervision both on-site and in the community as required.
  • Engage youth in the program to create a restorative and safe community environment. Create and maintain a safe, supportive, and structured culture.

Staff Guidance & Support:

  • Proactively support staff by providing practical input on young people’s behavior management.
  • Attend social service meetings with each respective team. Attend staff meetings with the Learning Center and Community Collective programs.
  • Offer insights and guidance on young persons' dynamics and interactions in the program and within the community.
  • Coordinate care with internal and external teams to support young people effectively.
  • Consult with the Youth Advocate to report on progress in treatment goals.

Assessment & Advocacy:

  • Assessing the young people's program activities, environments, and conditions; documenting and reporting findings to their internal and external teams.
  • Engage in mentoring activities and assess the young person's progress toward meeting goals and objectives.
  • Professionally engage with foster parents and guardians to provide pertinent program information and share their young person’s experience and progress.

Documentation & Evaluation:

  • Complete required documentation efficiently and on time.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally.
  • Document Behavioral Rehabilitation Services (BRS) hours for each young person.

Compliance:

  • Complete and monitor daily logs for each program's young person with a 1:1 contract.
  • Daily logs consist of significant interactions with staff, peers, employers, and school personnel, as well as special appointments and family/PO meetings. Etc.
  • Complete accurate and timely tracking of BRS support plans, BRS notes, and 1:1 logs.

External Relationships:

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with volunteers and community resources and ensure strong and consistent communication.
  • Develop relationships with partner organizations to ensure high-quality services to our young people.
  • Represent Youth Progress at relevant external meetings.

Other Duties:

  • Ensures the milieu is clean and safe and the equipment is set up and stored correctly.
  • Support other program functions as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Social work or social services, or Bachelors plus 2 + years experience in direct services working with system-involved young people.
  • Must be results-oriented and have excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Must have strong analytical skills and be well organized.
  • Demonstrate experience in a team-based work environment.
  • Experience facilitating training.
  • Current driver’s license.
