Overview

  • Hours: 2:00pm-7:00pm
  • Monday-Friday, 15-30 hours/week
  • Pay: $13.00-$15.00/hour
  • Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly
  • Position Reports to: Club Director, Program Director(s)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:  Youth Development Professionals plan and implement program content.  They create a fun, safe environment by engaging with members, encouraging participation, and evaluating outcomes within a specific program area, supporting our priority outcome areas of Academic Success, Healthy Lifestyles, Good Character and Citizenship, and Life Skills and Workforce Readiness.

STANDARD JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes:
  • Promote and stimulate program participation and engagement
  • Facilitate a safe and fun environment that values respect, honesty, integrity, and other core values that promote the development of great character in our members.
  • Provide guidance and role modelling to members, especially as they work through conflict, navigate friendships, strive for academic success, and live healthy lifestyles.

Program Development and Implementation

  • Monitor and evaluate the program frequently to ensure child and Club safety, high quality programming, and good appearance of the Club at all times.
  • Create effective lesson plans with the guidance of their supervisor and BGCWCL curriculum that are focused on the “why” or outcome of the lesson.  Why is what we learned important and how can it help us in life?  Implement those plans with members in the Club setting daily.
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly Club staff meetings

Ability to create and implement custom curriculums

Provides input to Club-wide decisions regarding staff and youth recognition, staff development, and programming.

Serves in designated roles for special events/provides staffing to Club functions.

Supervision

Provides training support for other Youth Development Professionals, as assigned by Program Director and/or Director of Academics; may provide continued YDP coaching

Maintain Positive Relationships

  • Internal:  Maintain close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instructions; instruct and advise/counsel.
  • External:  Maintain contact with external community groups, school faculty, Club families, and others to assist in resolving conflict issues.

ADDITIONAL CLUB-SPECIFIC DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:

  • Participation and/or scheduling special programs and/or events 
  • Light cleaning and organizing of program spaces
  • Incident reporting and administrative duties as assigned
  • Drive Club vehicle as assigned
  • Train and supervise volunteers as needed, relative to program activities
  • Assist to prepare periodic program reports

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Youth Development Professional

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with children and/or knowledge of youth development
  • Ability to motivate youth through effective classroom management skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise Club members in a safe environment
  • Valid State Driver’s License 
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certification (or to obtain within 6 months of date of employment, and annually thereafter)

 

Key Leader YDP

Administrative staff endorsement, indicating trust as leader, candidate exemplifies BGC mission, and additional insight into recommendation

Implementation of BGCWCL program over the course of 8-10 sessions, with a minimum 1 in-person observation with administrative staff

Completion of a special event, such as a showcase, program finale, or field trip

KEY Leader interview with Program Director, Club Director, and CEO

Minimum of three (3) months employed at BGCWCL


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Youth Development Professionals are required to be on their feet for long periods of time, often for more than an hour at a time.  They must also be able to lift at least twenty-five (25) pounds.
