Job Summary
The Dena'ina Yinihugheltani Project performs outreach, prevention and promotion activities under the Behavioral Health Department in order to achieve strategically developed goals toward prevention of Native youth suicide and prevention of Native youth substance misuse. Under the direction and guidance of the Yinihugheltani Project Coordinator the Youth Outreach and Support Specialist provides support to Yinihugheltani Project activities in general, and the Yinihugheltani Youth Club, and club membership, specifically. In partnership with the Coordinator, the Specialist will assist the Club with planning, coordination, and facilitation of Club activities including meetings, cultural activities, community events, and development and dissemination of Club-produced Outreach and media. The Specialist will assist the Coordinator with grant reporting obligations, and, also evaluation efforts including data collection, analysis, and dissemination.
Essential Functions
- Provide youth mentoring services to Yinihugheltani Youth Club membership with prevention mindset and perform the role of a trusted adult
- Take initiative in a dynamic assistant role through all phases of outreach material development from pre-planning, designing to dissemination
- Assist Project Coordinator and Club membership through planning, coordination, and facilitation of community events, meetings, and cultural activities
- Collect data from outreach events, Yinihugheltani Youth Club activities, and cultural activities, including participation and participatory outcomes
- Learn Behavioral Health Department and Tribal programs and systems across the tribe with a learner mindset
- Work as a positive team member within the Yinihugheltani Project; the Behavioral Health Department, and the Kenaitze Indian Tribe
- Model appropriate behavior and positively represent the Tribe and its programs
- Ensures compliance with Tribal, federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, Tribal policies and TERO ordinance

Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Experience
- Appreciation for the Kenaitze Dena'ina and Alaska Native culture, history and traditions required
Preferred
- 4 year degree in relevant field preferred, or equivalent work experience, or combination of education and work experience
- Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities
- Familiarity with issues of suicide, substance misuse, and prevention
- Formal work experience with high school-age youth strongly
- Experience with event organizing, community organizing, or health promotion strategies is strongly preferred
License/Certification
- Must have a valid Alaska State driver's license and must remain insurable under the Tribe's policy
Special Skills
- Tutoring, mentoring, and student support
- Experience, training, or personal interest, in any one or more areas of art or media production including but not limited to- strategic social media; visual art; music recording and production; performance arts, video production, information technology, graphic design
- Basic customer service skills, ability to follow directions and maintain appropriate time management
- Demonstrate ability to manage multiple goals, projects, and deadlines
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Good oral and written communication
- Conducts business in a service-oriented manner that is attentive, pleasant, respectful and kind when dealing with un'ina, visitors, co-workers and others
This position is a Covered Position subject to all requirements of the Alaska Barrier Crimes Act (ABCA) and to the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, (ICPA). ABCA and ICPA requirements apply and must be complied with at all times in order to remain in the position.
