Youth Ministry Coordinator - First Presbyterian Church Montrose

As the coordinator for our Youth community, you'll get paid to lead the spiritual growth of awesome middle and high schoolers. Not just any youth group - one focused on adventure, transparency, and one's faith. Join us as we foster a one-of-a-kind community helping young followers of Jesus practice what they preach in youth-centric ways. We're seeking someone to mentor students more than preach at them and help rebuild the Youth community from the ground up.

Role Summary:

The Youth Ministry Coordinator oversees discipleship and spiritual growth for 6th-12th graders by fostering a welcoming, spiritually nurturing environment where students can explore the Christian faith and develop a personal relationship with Jesus Christ relevant to their lives.

Qualifications:

  • A thoughtful, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ while still asking bold questions

  • Passion for walking with youth at pivotal life stages; prioritizing empathy

  • Dependability in coordinating logistics behind the scenes

  • Flexibility and problem-solving skills to handle changing dynamics

  • Enthusiasm for Colorado adventures and relationship-building activities

  • Gift of making each person feel heard and valued

  • Heart for mentoring teens more than preaching at them

  • Alignment with the church’s theological positions and ethical standards

  • Confident sharing personal faith journey when appropriate

  • Basic admin abilities for managing schedules, forms, and record-keeping

  • Background clearances or willingness to obtain, First Aid, CPR training.

While formal training is great, we value fit and chemistry more. We're seeking someone who combines sound judgment, humble curiosity, organization, and disciple-making vision into their existing love for youth, faith, and Colorado living.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans and leads engaging Youth Group lessons, youth group activities, events, and service projects to help students understand and apply Biblical teachings.

  • Mentors adolescents one-on-one and in small groups, answering faith questions, and providing guidance and support through life's challenges.

  • Creates safe spaces for students to express doubts, grow spiritually, and gain confidence in owning their beliefs.

  • Encourages regular youth participation in worship services and church events to build intergenerational connections.

  • Equips youth to articulate their faith by modeling authentic witness and providing leadership opportunities.

  • Partners with parents to elevate faith formation in the home through ongoing communication and accessible resources.

  • Oversees Youth Ministry volunteer recruitment, training, and appreciation.

  • Directly mentor any Youth Ministry interns, serving on the intern committee to provide guidance.

  • Attend regular continuing education and professional development training to elevate effectiveness, as outlined in personnel policies.

  • Participate consistently in worship services and occasionally contribute to elements of Sunday services.

  • Build relationships with other youth leaders in the community for idea-sharing and collaborative events.

  • Commit to approximately 40 working hours per week, with some schedule flexibility expected given retreats and trips. The church and coordinator will jointly ensure an appropriate work-life balance.

  • Check in biweekly with your assigned supervisor and attend weekly staff meetings.

Goals:

  • 50% of participating youth demonstrate an improved understanding of scripture and key theological concepts through annual assessments and feedback surveys.

  • Youth group membership increases by 10% year-over-year as students successfully invite friends to visit the ministry.

  • 50% of graduating seniors report feeling equipped to address faith challenges in college based on grounding in apologetics, religious practices, ethics, and Bible literacy.

  • 50% of youth are involved in volunteering for the church in some capacity before graduating high school.

Accountability:

  • Accountable to Lead Pastor as direct supervisor.

  • Evaluations conducted by the Personnel Committee.

  • Spiritual and career mentoring by Youth Committee.
