Youth Mentor

Do you love working with young people and helping them grow to be the best that they can be? Do you have a passion to support foster children and/or work with kids with special needs? Then becoming a Youth Mentor is the job for you. Our Youth Mentors get paid to play with the up to 50 boys (ages 12-21), each child coming to our campus with developmental disabilities and working to heal from the trauma that brought them into the foster care system. Youth Mentors help teach the boys daily living skills, help them develop workplace skills, and create good childhood memories. A Youth Mentor is able to provide structure through the implementation of a daily schedule and remains fair and consistent in their daily interactions with residents, all toward helping to provide home and healing to each youth while on our campus.

Qualifications:

A high school education or above

Two years minimum experience with children/youth, residential setting preferred.

Must have valid driver's license.

Clean background

Must be at least 21 years of age per state regulations.

2 shifts available: 7AM-7PM (17 openings) or 7PM-7AM (12 openings)

Basic Function:

The Youth Mentor must have the ability, energy, flexibility and maturity to relate to youth and adults. He/she must display the motivation and desire to learn and develop appropriate childcare skills and meet all the employment qualifications as outlined in the standards for a child caring institution. This position is responsible for providing direct supervision of clients at all times and being a positive role model and mentor. A Youth Mentor is responsible for meeting the basic needs of all residents placed under their direct care and supervision. A Youth Mentor has the ability to exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative in dealing with youth, staff, and the public.

The youth in our care have dual diagnosis (MID with Axis I), and many have suffered abuse and/or neglect. Their IQs range between 40-80 and the ages range 12-21. Each resident receives individualized services that address their physical, psychological, social, educational, and spiritual needs. We provide 24-hour watchful oversight with numerous supports on-site to assist each child in being successful in their transition to the least restrictive environment possible.
