The Youth Mentor is responsible for working as part of a team to supervise school age youth, ensure safety, and deliver programs and activities to members. This position is primarily responsible for positive member experience, customer service, focusing on relationship building, conflict resolution, community building, and leading daily programs. The ideal candidate for this position will be enthusiastic about leading inclusive, high quality activities with youth, build strong family and community relationships, and assist in maintaining a world class Club experience to expand and retain membership.

  • Ensure proper administrative, staff and board, infrastructure/internal operations are in place to support BGC Alaska’s growth and development.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Leadership & Operations

  • Lead or assist in leading daily schedule, programs and activities with youth
  • Ensure the Club is safe, clean and attractive
  • Assist in supervision of volunteers as needed
  • Build positive relationships and resolve conflicts between members using approved youth development methods
  • Assist in planning clubs, programs and activities as needed, including preparing materials and spaces
  • Utilize data collection tools including MyClubHub to record attendance, program participation, volunteer hours, emergency contacts, etc.

Marketing and Public Relations

  • Assist in marketing Club services to local schools, organizations and community as needed
  • Represent the Club and organization by attending community events as needed

Partnership Development

  • Respond quickly and professionally to stakeholders, schools, and community leaders
  • Build positive, professional relationships with families and the community

Resource Management

  • Maintain technology, tools, equipment, and facilities including regular cleaning and maintenance
  • Ensure facility security and safety, including being responsible for controlled access, reporting issues, and coordinating with management as needed

Strategic Planning

  • Provide feedback and implement plans from Clubhouse Operations related to programs, and membership and program attendance goals
  • Partner with Clubhouse staff, stakeholders and Clubhouse Operations to expand membership base and areas served
Requirements:

  • Highschool Diploma preferred OR willingness to complete an employer supported education completion plan for a diploma or GED within 2 years
  • 2 years of experience with youth preferred OR a strong interest in youth education, advocacy, or development required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing and orally
  • Ability to achieve and maintain first aid and CPR certification
  • Must pass a name-based and fingerprint criminal records background check

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to walk, sit, stand, see, utilize fine and gross motor manipulation, and climbing ramps, stairs and/or into planes. WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may work in outside weather conditions, and the noise level in the work environment may be loud.
