This is a part time position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. This position typically works 15-25 hours per week. Programming for this position typically occurs Monday through Friday from 3:30-8:00pm.
Are you passionate about Martial Arts and want to use your skills to enrich the lives of Denver's youth community? The MY Denver program, part of the Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR), is seeking a Martial Arts Teacher to join a team dedicated to providing youth with opportunities for enrichment though skill-building activities, inclusive programming, and a myriad of learning and social opportunities. MY Denver Martial Arts programming, free to youth ages 5-18 who possess a MY Denver Card, is focused not only on providing the skills for self-defense, but also developing humility, self-confidence, self-discipline, focus, and respect. This is a rewarding opportunity to use your creativity to develop engaging and meaningful programming for Denver's youth.
We are open to those with experience in all types of Martial Arts. Our current participants are most familiar with Shotokan, Gōjū-ryū, and Wado-Kai.
As a Youth Martial Arts Teacher, you will:
The MY Denver Card provides free access to all of Denver's recreation centers for young people, ages 5-18, who are residents of Denver and/or attend Denver Public Schools. MY Denver exists to engage young people in structured drop-in programming through a myriad of learning and social opportunities during out-of-school time. Out-of-school time recreational programming directly contributes to academic and social development, positioning youth for present and future success. MY Denver's focus is to provide safe, supportive, quality opportunities for youth to play, learn, and grow. Activities offered in the recreation center fall into broader categories including Sports & Wellness, Science, Technology and Education, Urban Arts & Culture, Social Recreation, and Community Engagement.

Our ideal candidate for this position is a talented martial artist who is enthusiastic about sharing and teaching their skills to youth. - Use creativity to design and teach Martial Arts techniques and principals to youth ages 8 - 18 years old
- Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and class activities
- Provide a safe and supportive environment for participants
- Monitor and assess participants' process and provide constructive feedback
- Ensure the physical and emotional well-being of all participants during class
- Communicate with parents and guardians about participants' progress and performance
- Maintain a clean and organized training area
- Travel between recreation centers with needed equipment to implement programming in a timely manner
- Attend meetings, as needed

- Experience participating in Martial Arts recreationally or competitively in a classroom setting
- Experience with Martial Arts instruction
- Ability to teach skills to youth at a variety of ability levels, preparing them for in-house tournaments and camps
- Experience working with youth ages 8 - 18
- A relevant Martial Arts certification (preferred, but not required)
- CPR/First Aid certification
We realize your time is valuable so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required minimum qualifications:
- Education: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience (paid or volunteer) as an instructor in an organized specialized formal program.
- Licensures/Certification(s): Requires certification in CPR/First Aid at the time of application or prior to completion of probation period. Licensure and certification must be kept current as a condition of employment.
- Equivalency: A combination of appropriate education and experience may be substituted for the minimum education and experience requirements.
