Job Summary:
The Youth Life Skills Coachis responsible for developing and implementing emotional and mental health services in the 21st Century after school programs. The Youth Life Skills Coachwill work collaboratively with students, staff and parents in the delivery of mental/emotional health services and skill development to help students achieve maximum benefit from the educational program. The Youth Life Skills Coachacts as a liaison between parents/guardians, after school programs and the program coordinator. Part time position approximately 15 hours/week.
Essential Duties:
  1. Possess knowledge of challenges and strengths of at-risk students and families.
  2. Possess effective communication skills both written and oral.
  3. Works collaboratively with the Coordinator of Expanded Learning and Team Leaders to establish appropriate mental and emotional health services for participating students
  4. Support the program coordinator and staff with students needing mental or emotional support
  5. Engage students in meaningful learning opportunities
  6. Possess skills for observation and recording
  7. Identify concerns and communicate with students and parents in a non-threatening way
  8. Adhere to strict child and family confidentiality
  9. Provide training for parents on topics such as parenting, emotional development, family relationships
  10. Provide appropriate referrals to available local services for families
  11. Responsible for the development and implementation of behavior plans (specific individual plans)
  12. Maintains a physically and emotionally safe program environment
  13. Participates in training related to the program and the delivery of mental and emotional health services
  14. Works with students to build skills and to promote positive youth development
  15. Assess needs of program students and generate new or enhanced programs and services to meet the needs of those students
  16. Adhere to program and grant requirements
  17. Works cooperatively with Coordinator of Expanded Learning and Team Leaders to build collaborative relationships with building staff, parents, students and community representatives
  18. Assists in recruiting participants for program activities
  19. Organizes and maintains program resources including curriculum, supplies and equipment
  20. Works with department staff and program administration to schedule, plan and implement programs and activities
  21. Attends required meetings
  22. Maintains accurate records, including attendance, timesheets, task sheets and other required documentation
  23. Works with the Coordinator of Expanded Learning and Team Leaders to identify current and future program goals

Other Duties:
1. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, family life management, psychology, health education or closely related field. Master's degree in related area preferred.
Experience: Two years documented work experience with youth preferred. Group facilitation experience preferred.
Skills/Other: Evidence of strong organizational skills. Ability to accept supervision and direction. Ability to work creatively and skillfully with local school district staff, agencies and parents. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Ability to complete reports in a timely and accurate manner. Valid Michigan driver license and the ability to travel to and from the intermediate school district and the constituent school districts as assigned. Punctuality and good attendance are requirements for the position. Demonstrated mental/physical ability and stamina necessary to meet the essential/other duties of the job. Ability to exercise good judgment and to make decisions in accordance with board policies and established administrative guidelines.
Salary: $21.48/hour
