Job Summary:

The Youth Driver and Program Specialist provides safe transportation for students to and from high schools to the Ready Center for events such as program enrollment, trainings, certification classes, guest speakers, and special events. Additional duties include assisting with other programming and/or transportation needs as they arise. This position is additionally responsible for assisting in the planning, organizing, and facilitating activities in relation to the Career Development programming for Club members ages 14-21.

Responsibilities:

• Safely transports small groups of Career Development program participants to and from training, events, work experiences, test sites, and other destinations as needed.

o Monitors passengers during transit for the purpose of maintaining order and ensuring the safety of passengers.

o Make sure that every passenger is wearing their seat belt at all times.

o Creates a safe, diverse, and welcoming environment for youth.

o Observe the speed limit and all road signs and signals during the task of delivering children safely to their destinations.

o Maintains current understanding of organizational accident reporting procedures.

o Communicates with management about maintenance issues with the van; delivers, picks up, and verifies maintenance work completed.

o Coordinates annual license and registration renewals with management.

o Communicates as needed with BGCGM staff and parents or guardians of youth.

o Keeps the van clean and fueled, conducts daily safety inspections of van, records the number of miles traveled, and manages all receipts that are related to the trip.

• Assists as a floater at the Ready Center to help support programs and events when not driving.

o Assists and supports the facilitation and enhancement of existing Boys & Girls Clubs Career Development programming.

o Supervises students engaged in quality activities to achieve specific goals and outcome measurements.

o Uses approved curricula properly and maintains appropriate teacher to student ratio and other program-specific requirements and expectations.

o Encourages social, emotional, and educational growth of individual students.

• Assists with generating monthly, quarterly, and/or annual reports as requested.

• Other duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED

Experience Requirements:

• 21 years of age with a valid Wisconsin driver’s license

• Ability to pass a criminal background check and driving record check.

• Prior experience working with children, especially in relation to transportation a plus.

• Experience directly related to youth and youth programming.

Skills:

• Enjoy serving youth and young adults.

• Demonstrated examples of working with youth.

• Highly organized with attention to detail.

• Ability to relate effectively with diverse a population.

• Good communications skills, both written and oral.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to touch, handle, or feel. The member is occasionally required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus.

The position is flexible around the needs of our clients including but not limited to first and second shifts during the work week with occasional weekend hours as needed.
