We are looking for someone who cares deeply about the well-being of Juneau's youth, thrives in a busy and sometimes chaotic youth center environment and is non-judgmental and welcoming to all. Typical Responsibilities
In this position you will be working directly with youth, organizing and leading activities that support youth in making healthy choices and meaningful connections. You will be greeting patrons at the door and tracking attendance. You will be working with partners to provide an array of activities and events and you will be cooking and counseling and having lots of fun! This is a critical position in the day-to-day operations of the youth center. You will be building and maintaining relationships with teens and youth in middle and elementary school. You will be working with a team that is committed to Juneau's youth and creating a more equitable community. You will be doing some paperwork and data entry, and you will be making sure the youth center is safe for all. You will answer the phone and facilitate rentals of the facility from time to time.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from high school or the equivalent; First Aid and CPR certification within 30 days of appointment; and, any combination of work experience or post-secondary education totaling three (3) months in any field.
Substitute: One course from an accredited college in a human related field may substitute for experience. A secondary degree in any field will also substitute for experience.
Note: Under Alaska Statute 12.62.160 (9) Appointments to this position are offered conditionally, pending the results of a criminal records report (Non-FBI). Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors. Applicants who materially misrepresent any information provided in the employment process will be excluded from further consideration or may be dismissed if already employed.
For Shelter Positions: Under Alaska Statute 12.62.400 (9) Appointment to this position is offered conditionally, pending the results of a National Criminal History report through the FBI. Applicants must submit their fingerprints to continue in the hiring approval process. The applicant will receive a copy of the report of findings and may dispute within 5 days of receiving them. Human Resources evaluates the results to ensure the applicant does not have any convictions that result in a direct nexus to the primary duties involving supervising minors.
