Job Description Overview:

Federal Hill House operates an after-school program as well as a Summer Camp Program on site at 35 Swiss St, Providence, RI. We also operate two before and after school programs at local elementary schools. Children and families are offered transportation to and from school, provided nutritional snacks, and engage in homework help as well as enrichment activities.

The Youth Development Counselorwill work with elementary age students during the before and/or after school program. They will develop positive relationships that encourage school engagement; plan and lead enrichment programming; and offer academic support as needed. They will report to the site coordinator.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a safe and clean environment at all times
  • Uphold all program / agency policies and procedures
  • Comply with all childcare licensing regulations
  • Develop positive, productive relationships with children, parents and caregivers
  • Create positive, productive program environment utilizing positive and preventative classroom management techniques and responding to the developmental needs of children
  • Support afternoon snacks, ensuring compliance with menu and meal protocols
  • Participate in on-boarding training and orientation as well as on-going professional development
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and common planning time
  • Under direction of site coordinator, interact with school faculty to support academic goals of enrolled children
  • Maintain effective interaction with colleagues
  • Communicate concerns to supervisor in a timely manner
  • Attend agency meetings / trainings as requested
  • Additional duties as assigned

Hours & Pay:

Core hours for this position are Monday-Friday from 6:45 – 9:30 a.m. and/or 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Pay begins at $15/hour based on education and experience.

Requirements:

  • At least 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Experience working with school age children
  • Excellent relationship building skills
  • Positive group management skills
  • Love for children and belief that all children have the ability to thrive in a supportive, structured environment
  • Ability to support children academically
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families
  • Reliability and professionalism
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Ability to clear all required background checks
  • Spanish speaking a plus
