Job Description
The schedule for this position will be Monday-Friday 2:30pm to 7pm
Starting salary is $12 per hour

Summary: To build quality healthy relationships with children from the Waterloo/Cedar Falls community through positive interactions and creating recreational and educational participation and cooperation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Include the following:
  • Assist the Director with the supervision of The Salvation Army Youth (SAY) -Center activities; monitor open gymnasium, hallway, breeze way, bathrooms, outdoor field activities; maintain safe environment; enforce policies and procedures; ensure security of facility at closing.
  • Lead youth group activities and the character-building program as well as research, develop and execute programs with the intent of discipling youth to grow and mature socially, emotionally and spiritually; including but not limited to Bible studies, divisional programs, weekday services, and youth conferences/retreats.
  • This role will be responsible to transport youth to Army activities, programs and camps as directed.
  • Prepare, update, and maintain confidential records and files of youth and community center participants.
  • Develop and implement the necessary systems to facilitate extracurricular programs and clubs.
  • Encourage community center patrons to attend or participate in other Salvation Army programs and worship services.
  • Responsible for keeping inventory for vending machine - purchasing supplies, restocking, and reporting income to the Business Administrator.
  • Assist the Director in long-range planning with regard to curriculum, philosophy, and goals.
  • Complete monthly, weekly, and daily curriculum plans in time for the group and communicate these as directed.
  • Provides a curriculum that helps each child develop to the fullest in each area of development.
  • Be familiar with and adhere to the program's policies, health and safety regulations, and emergency procedures, and be ready to implement these if necessary.
  • This position will be required to work a sporadic schedule of mornings, afternoon, evenings or weekends as Youth Center programs and activities demand.
  • Driving is an essential function of this position.
  • All other duties as assigned

Additional Information
Education and/or Experience: High School or GED diploma with two years of experience working with youth.
Qualifications:The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.
  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills with ability to access databases, payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.
  • Administrative skills to include utilization of standard office equipment, data entry, 10-key, attention to details and filing.
  • Good communication skills both written and spoken, and ability to maintain effective working relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters
  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Strong independent judgement.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate staff and/or volunteers.

Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
