Apply Now Job Description Basketball Referee Implements Youth Basketball program for grades K-12.

Referees basketball games for youth. Maintains clean and safe environment. Maintains courts and equipment.

Manages participant and spectator safety. Ensures teams are treated fairly and equally in accordance with AYBL and Basketball sport rules. Conducts CPR and First Aid.

Supervises activities at site(s) and surrounding areas to ensure safety and welfare of players, the general public, and attendees. Travels to various sites for games and events. Performs related work as required.

Essential Functions (The essential functions or duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to the position.) - Decides and communicates actions of game using signals. Designates fouls and penalties.

- Wears designated uniform. - Starts games at scheduled start times. - Records scores and nominates an MVP for each game.

- Enforces rules, regulations, and polices to referee basketball games. - Maintains documentation. Reports incidents and accidents.

- Sets up and breaks down basketball game equipment. - Attends AYBL Referee trainings. - Maintains league standings and scores.

- Assists with implementation of All-Star games. - Adjusts to meet schedule of program. Works weekday evening, weekends, and holidays.

- Follows and implements Association and AYBL Referees' training. - Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as situation dictates. Minimum Qualifications Must attend the annual AYBL Referee training prior to start of season.

This is a seasonal position requiring work on weekday evenings, holidays, and weekend days and evenings. Must be available during month of January for work. Ability to access to transportation or ability to drive to reach various sites on time.

Knowledge, Ability, and Skill Knowledge. Knowledge of basketball rules and sports activity. Familiarity with community facilities and resources for sporting events.

Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of physical education and sports, especially basketball for youth ages K-12. Knowledge sufficient to be aware of issues, and to write incident and safety reports. Knowledge of town and state health and environmental and building cleanliness procedures, processes and rules.

Ability. Communicate effectively verbally and in writing, Ability to communicate a second language is helpful. Ability to be understood.

Ability to communicate respectfully with diverse cultures and background. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, participants, parents, community leaders, the general public, and other agencies. Ability to be tactful, diplomatic, and clear in interactions with the general public, the youth, parents, other employees and municipal departments.

Ability to perform physical activities and refereeing. Ability to drive to or have transportation to work at any location or facility. Ability to work weekday evenings, weekend days and evenings, the month of January.

Ability to communicate knowledge of basketball to youth and parents Ability to maintain physical conditioning for refereeing duties. Skill. Skill to organize and be an effective communicator, and is cooperative.

Proficient interpersonal skills. Leadership skills to lend support to leaders in Youth Basketball program. Strong diplomacy skills.

Highly skilled in conflict management to settle disputes and maintain calm. Skill in teaching youth about the game of basketball. Skill with delivering, reading, and interpreting basketball game signage.

Ability to perform physical conditioning to referee games. Supervision Supervision Scope: Delivers professional referee services and works in collaboration with others. Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Supervisor, Youth Basketball, and/or Basketball Officials.

Follows established AYBL department rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Supervision Given: May occasionally lead, guide and direct volunteers. Instructs players in rules and regulations of the game.

Job Environment Work is generally performed in indoor or outdoor gyms or basketball courts. Noise levels are moderate to loud. Operates computers, telephone, copiers, facsimile machines, and other standard office equipment occasionally.

Operates basketball equipment and, tools. Makes regular contacts with youth, supervision, parents, town citizens, other agencies, community leaders, and participants. Most contacts involve an information exchange, providing directions, instruction, and communicating decisions.

Has no access to some confidential information about youth participants. Errors in judgement or administration could have adverse effect, or result in monetary and or legal repercussions or damage the reputation of program.
