SUMMARY:

As the Youth Basketball Coach, you will be required to work between 2 - 5 hours on Sundays leading 4 separate classes of participants through skill, drills, and scrimmages. You will be responsible for planning and facilitating these classes for children ranging from ages 3 - 10 as well as addressing any questions and concerns parents may have.

WHAT YOU WILL DO: 

  • Provide a safe playing environment and serve as a positive role model to players and parents.
  • Teach players fundamental skills, strategies, and rules of the game in a fun engaging manner.
  • Supervise participants at all times throughout program duration
  • Plan and facilitate all warmups, drills, activities, and games
  • Instill good sportsmanship, cooperation, and work ethic in all participants.
  • Responsible for set-up and take-down of all equipment.
  • Maintains high standards of communication with staff, participants, and parents.
  • Other duties may be assigned as deemed by Sports Coordinator
  • Collaborate with Sports Coordinator on program needs

WHO YOU ARE:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • College degree or Continuing Education in a sports related field preferred
  • 2 years experience in Basketball Coaching preferred (years of experience playing accepted)
  • Experience working with children ages 3-12 highly preferred
  • Minimum of Program specific certification or education preferred
  • First Aid certification preferred
  • Infant/Child and Adult CPR/AED certification preferred

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Requires the ability to move through all basketball skills and movements
  • Ability to lift 25lbs
  • Some lifting may require additional assistance from another staff person
  • Employee is expected to use discretionary judgement and ask for assistance from another employee if an item is perceived to be too heavy to lift without assistance.
  • Use of personal safety equipment is required
  • Occasional lifting, pulling, climbing, kneeling and bending
