Through Wisconsin Youth Apprenticeship (YA), NEA is offering an opportunity for a high school level student to participate in a program that will teach the student various aspects of the diesel and heavy equipment maintenance/repair.

Position:

We're looking for a Youth Apprentice Diesel Techto work in our Greenville, WI Shop. Under the direction of the Shop Foreman and YA program guide, Diesel Technician youth apprentices gain skills related to the preventative maintenance and repair of diesel vehicles and equipment. Apprentices must adhere to industry safety and security standards.

Skills Gained:

  • Operate tools and equipment safely
  • Maintain work area
  • Process work order
  • Change oil and filter
  • Assist the diagnosis of common concerns
  • Acquire vehicle/equipment parts
  • Perform electronic diagnosis of vehicle
  • Assist with preventative maintenance of:
  • diesel engines, brake systems, fuels systems, steering and suspension, electrical systems, HVAC systems, hydraulics, powertrain/hydrostatic systems, wheels and tires, drivetrain systems, air and exhaust systems, windshields, vehicle/equipment, and exterior lighting systems

Benefits:

This Part-time position will receive hourly pay and earn school credit while exploring a career path for an in-demand occupation.

Location:

  • This position works as part of the staff in our Greenville, WI maintenance & repair facility

Qualifications:

  • Students that apply must be at least 16 years old
  • Be enrolled in a participating public or private secondary school or another approved program which leads to high school graduation or its equivalent
  • Be entering at least the junior year of their secondary education
  • Have participated in career exploration, guidance or education activities which allow them to make an informed choice about their chosen career area
  • Be able to tolerate and work in typical heavy shop environment as part of a large team
  • If applicable, the student will provide a work permit to the company prior to starting
  • All students offered a position must take a pre-employment drug test
  • All parties, including parents, must be involved in the process
