Title: Young Adult Peer Professional Coordinator
$72,800 - $79,040 / Posted Thru: 4-1-24
Limited Term Thru: 9/30/25

Location: Hybrid - Lansing, MI Office

Purpose:To expand and develop parent peer continuum of services beyond the currently offered services of Parent Support Partner and Youth Peer Support, trainings and projects for children and youth with SED and their families. This position will partner with the Parent Peer Professional Coordinator to develop and oversee training of peers who are providing peer delivered services for children and youth with SED and their families and coordinate with the Association for Children’s Mental Health. This position will also support the incorporation of family voice with the Bureau of Children’s Coordinated Health Policy and Supports through participation in policy development and collaboration with Bureau partners around service enhancement.

Dutiesand Responsibilities:

  • Partner with the Parent Peer Professional Coordinator to develop a peer service continuum for children, youth with SED and their families.
  • Research national best practice models for peer delivered services and determine what is the best fit for Michigan in conjunction with ACMH and MDHHS.
  • Partner with the Parent Peer Professional Coordinator to create a statewide curriculum and training for parents and caregivers of children with lived experience who are providing peer delivered services that outside of existing Medicaid services.
  • Facilitate and coordinate the inclusion of youth and Young Adults with lived experience into policy and decision-making discussions at MDHHS.
  • Organize, prepare, and provide ongoing support to youth and Young Adults with lived experience in their work with MDHHS.
  • Work with MDHHS and youth and Young Adults to create a “new space” where collaboration and true partnership can occur.
  • Support an open and inclusive perspective within the Bureau of Children’s Coordinated Health Policy and Supports.
  • Support staff within the Bureau to consider diverse viewpoints and look at projects and policy through a youth and Young Adult lens.
  • Reinforce an atmosphere of empathy, respect, and understanding.
  • Collaborate with other Bureau staff to identify knowledge gaps and barriers within service delivery and policies. Provide insights into potential areas for improvement based on community input from youth and Young Adult voice and personal experiences.
  • Utilize personal lived experience to inform and enrich discussions, policies, and services within the Bureau.
  • Support Bureau staff in having connection with youth and Young Adult perspective in service and policy development to broaden the understanding of youth and Young Adult voice.
  • Support Bureau’s commitment to ensuring youth and Young Adult voices are heard and valued, both internally and externally.
  • Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:


Education: A high school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: Lived experience as a youth who has received behavioral health services in the past ten years and be willing to share experiences as they relate to the position.

  • Ability to use software applications (i.e. database, spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation programs at proficient level).

Work Environment and PhysicalRequirements:The position may require moderate physical effort including lifting materials and equipment of <50# and involves viewing a CRT or VDT screen 25% to 75% o f the time. Standard office environment. May require valid vehicle operator’s license to perform duties of the position. Travel within the state, as needed, including Upper Peninsula; anticipated to travel for the project technical assistance meetings (out of state) as scheduled.
