The Yoga Instructor will work with patients with a range of physical abilities, mental illness diagnosis, & substance abuse issues combining a variety of techniques to aid in a person’s personal recovery process by way of utilizing physical techniques (e.g., stretching and/or strengthening yoga postures) & mindfulness training (e.g., breath work or somatic awareness exercises). The Yoga Instructor leads group yoga classes for patients and implements treatment goals as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, providing continuous patient care, observation, interaction, and role modeling to patients under the direction of the Experiential Therapies Manager. The Yoga Instructor will sufficiently prepare for and lead groups through various levels and types of yoga practice as appropriate to the health and age of the patients, providing demonstration of techniques and verbal cues (no hands-on direction) to assist patients with proper poses, alternative poses, and beneficial breathing patterns.
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalency.
- Minimum of (1) year of experience as a Yoga Instructor; experience working in healthcare setting preferred.
Certification Requirements:
- Successful completion of Verbal De-Escalation and Handle with Care certifications, CPR and First Aid; training provided by facility.
- Current Yoga Teacher or Yoga Instruction 500-hour Certification required.
- Agency Affiliated Counselor credential to be obtained upon offer. Lack of “pending” status on DOH website within 30 days of hire will result in immediate suspension until “pending” status is listed.
