We are dedicated to working with Wisconsinites while preserving and enhancing the natural resources of Wisconsin. In partnership with individuals and organizations, DNR staff manage fish, wildlife, forests, parks, air and water resources while promoting a healthy, sustainable environment and a full range of outdoor opportunities.

The Wisconsin DNR has multiple LTE (Limited Term Employee) – positions available at our Yellowstone State Park, in Blanchardville, WI.

  • Facilities Repair Workers
  • Visitor Services Associates

These positions are expected to begin in spring 2024, work through the summer, and end in the fall.

Position Summary


Visitor Services Associate

Are responsible for greeting park visitors, selling vehicle admission stickers, registering campers, fielding questions about the park or property and recreation opportunities, along with a variety of other administrative and financial duties.

50% - Greet visitors, collect and account for fees and disseminate information. Work at entrance stations, campgrounds or other visitor contact stations. Use electronic cash registers, electronic credit card verification equipment and computerized reservation and reporting systems.

25% - Provide answers to visitor questions concerning the specific park area, as well as explain the area's recreational opportunities, interpretive services, concessions and campground availability.

15% - Distribute brochures, maps and provide directions/routes of travel throughout the park; inform visitors of potential safety hazards.

10% - Issue admission receipts in accordance with established guidelines.


Facilities Repair Worker

This position performs a combination of general maintenance and repair work to various building types and equipment, including but not limited to park buildings, electrical, plumbing, power tools and vehicles.

50% - Perform facility improvement projects by repairing windows, doors, screens, and walls. Perform minor repairs to water, electrical and heating systems.

20% - Mow grass, pick up litter, clean public use areas and beaches. Haul garbage. Paint buildings, grills and picnic tables. Maintain restrooms, campfire rings and picnic grills. Remove trees and brush.

15% - Operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, weed trimmers, power tools, sprayers, etc.

15% - Fill and grade park roads, patch blacktop and maintain culverts and shoulders.


Salary Information


These positions pay between $14.00 - $15.50 per hour and are in pay schedule and range 02-10 and 03-10.

Rates offered to selected applicants will depend on the experience of the candidate and the position being offered. Compensation will be set in accordance with the State Compensation Plan.

Job Details


These are Limited Term Employment (LTE) positions. LTE positions do not automatically lead to permanent state employment or enjoy the same benefits as permanent employees; however, these positions do offer valuable work experience and an opportunity to learn more about career opportunities with the Department of Natural Resources and the State of Wisconsin.

LTE employees are limited to working 1039 hours per position within a twelve-month period.

Qualifications


Required Qualifications for Visitor Services Associates:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and the public
  • Customer service and cash handling experience
  • Knowledge and experience working with computers
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
  • Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.


Fleet Requirements for Facilities Repair Workers:

In addition to the required qualifications below, Facilities Repair Workers must be eligible to drive a state vehicle and meet the following criteria:

  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a minimum of two years of licensed driving experience
  • Have not had three (3) or more moving violations and/or at-fault accidents in the past two (2) years
  • Have no OWI/DUI violations within the past year


Required Qualifications for Facilities Repair Workers:

  • Knowledge, skills and experience with general maintenance operations
  • Building and/or facility repair or maintenance experience
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated and punctual
  • Ability to work a modified schedule; nights, weekends, holidays, etc.
