We are currently looking for a Yard Switcher (Night Shift) for our location in Cleveland, Ohio.

We have 7 facilities in Oregon, California, North Carolina, and Ohio that supply new steel drums, reconditioned steel drums, reconditioned IBCs, plastic drums, and recycled plastic. The Yard Switcher will perform specialized labor utilizing a switch truck to move empty and loaded trailers between the dock and specified areas in the yard. The employee is also responsible for preparing various logs and other paperwork required for the maintenance and inspection of the switcher truck and interacting with other employees while performing the required duties. Work is performed in accordance with federal, state and local laws. The essential duties and responsibilities include the following:

• Considerable knowledge of operation of heavy trucks.
• General knowledge of the occupational hazards and proper safety precautions for operation of a heavy single or combination motor vehicle.
• Skill in the safe and efficient operation of a heavy single or combination motor vehicle.
• Ability to complete simple forms according to established format.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
• Assist the loaders by shrink wrapping, air bagging and spelling off for breaks. Make sure that a constant supply of used cardboard is available for the loader, by removing it from the trailers and placing it on carts.
• Inspect trailers for leaks, damage, and nails. Sweep and remove trash to ensure that clean dry trailers are available to load. Inspect trailer lights, tires, brakes, and slider pins to ensure that they are road worthy.
• Notify the Manager of Logistics of any necessary repairs and coordinating with outside carriers when they arrive and instruct them as to proper protocol and notify them when the loads they are waiting for are ready.
• Inspect and police the yard for trash and debris and to ensure that trailers are dropped in a neat and organized manner. Assist the logistics department by performing yard checks and be available as a backup driver to take loads or to make part pickups and any duties as assigned.
• Perform all work in a safe manner following company policies and OSHA regulations.
• Able to work night shift, weekends, holidays and overtime as needed with short notice
• Able to work with little supervision

Qualifications to perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the above duties.

Required Education, Skill, Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Current CDL Class A or B license and DOT physical card
• 1 to 2 years of experience in operation of heavy trucks, preferably including delivery experience;
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
