Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the timely movement and spotting of trailers to fulfill the needs of the Distribution warehouse and Production plants which also includes the thorough knowledge of on-hand inventory and positioning. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Operations Supervisor and follows prescribed guidelines or procedures in the performance of work activities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Locates and moves full and empty trailers to and from various loading dock doors and various Barr facility locations
  • Couples and uncouples yard mule to and from trailers and secures trailers in the yard
  • Checks with supervisor promptly at the start of the shift for days assigned schedule
  • Move yard mule to the loading dock and attaches preloaded trailer
  • Transports loaded trailer with yard mule or regular tractor to the proper storage location in the yard
  • Performs safety check inspection of the trailer according to Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations
  • Secures the trailer landing gear and uncouple the trailer with the 5th wheel pin
  • Connects and disconnects brake lines as needed
  • Attaches empty trailers to yard mule and transports to the appropriate loading dock door
  • Performs general housekeeping duties in work areas as needed
  • Secures all equipment and completes all necessary paperwork at the end of each shift
  • Maintain good working relationships with all
  • Performs all work in accordance with Barr's safety and quality guidelines and procedures; demonstrates clear understanding of these quality objectives
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Five years related experience or training or combination of experience and training, demonstrating strong communication skills and tact. Must possess a valid Driver's License, CDL Class A with Hazmat endorsement. Demonstrates knowledge of DOT Regulations and OSHA Regulations. Demonstrates the ability to operate a powered industrial truck, e.g., forklift.
An attention to detail and the ability to work to deadlines are essential. Must possess ability to work independently without direct supervision; demonstrated skills in communication, math, and reading; ability to work cooperatively as part of a team; ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; mathematical aptitude; ability to meet and adhere to all attendance and hours of work requirements; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; ability to work with hands; ability to work overtime as required.
Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel:
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb, stoop, talk, see, and hear and hand/wrist use for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to carry out detailed written or oral instructions.
  • Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift or move up to 70 pounds; specific vision abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability work near moving machinery and/or in high precarious places and to have limited exposure to fumes or airborne particles and/or toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock, vibration, and extreme heat or cold.
  • Some travel may be required.
