The Gilbert Company is seeking a Class A CDL Yard Driver to join our team. One for first shift and one for second shift. The ideal driver will move trailers and shipping containers within the yard and transporting empty and full trailers and containers in and out of dock doors. The Yard Driver will also move empty and full trailers and shipping containers to an offsite yard located within a few miles from the terminal. The position requires a strong desire to learn and grow within the company. This position requires a Class A commercial driver’s license. The individual will be expected to perform all duties outlined in the company’s safety policy and procedures manual.
Schedule 1 - Monday through Friday starting at 6 am
Schedule 2 - Monday through Friday starting at 4 pm
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate all equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Maintain equipment in good condition
- Safely operate a company vehicle in accordance with state regulations and federal standards.
- Ensures the trailer or truck is completely loaded and secured before moving from the staging area
- Works with management to ensure the proper equipment is staged for shipping.
- Works closely with maintenance to ensure any repairs are finished before using equipment
- Helps keep trailer parking yard free of debris and trash
- Arranges trailers on the yard in an orderly and efficient manner
- Moves trailers for receiving when needed
- Keeps a record of trailer moves daily
- Perform duties related to yard work, landscaping, pruning, etc. as assigned by the Terminal Manager
- Be able to perform a Daily vehicle inspection report DVIR
- Be able to slide trailer & container tandems
- Follow instructions
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Skills and Abilities Required: To perform this job successfully an individual must have:
- A valid Class A California Driver's license
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- Minimum 2 years of verifiable yard driving experience
- Current DOT medical card
- No DUI's or felonies
- 25 years of age or older
- Knowledge of DOT regulations
- Knowledge of California and Federal laws concerning commercial vehicles
- Knowledge of safe and legal operation of a commercial motor vehicle
- Time records knowledge of HOS(Hours of Service)
- Physical components of the position example climbing in/out of truck, push pull 35 to 50 lbs(container doors), pull fifth wheel pin 35 to 40 lbs, pull trailer slider lever 35 to 40lb,
- Sitting: up to 2 hours
- Walking: up to 4 hours
- Standing: up to 2 hours
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Excellent time management skills and must be able to work independently or with others as needed.
