Biscayne Lady Yacht Charters, South Florida’s premier luxury yacht charter venue, boasting two state-of-the-art 100+ foot vessels is seeking a U. S. Coast Guard 100-Ton licensed Yacht Captain. We host parties from many of the area’s most prestigious locations, including Bayside Marketplace, Fontainebleau and Eden Roc Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, and Palm Beach. Our yachts have participated in high-profile events such as Ultra Music Festival, the Miami International Boat Show, SuperBowl LIV, the Winterfest Boat Parade and many more! No two days are the same here, because we travel so numerous different docks, and each charter is unique, yet our captains still get to go home every night.
Job Summary:
The successful Captain is the sole officer of the navigational watch and is completely responsible for the safety of the vessel, its passengers, and crew. Captains shall ensure that their vessel and all required safety equipment is in proper operating condition at all times, and that their crew is properly trained in all emergency and operational procedures.
Position Reports To: Operations Manager, Port Captain
Essential Functions:
Vessel Operations
· Operate the vessel in accordance with the company’s charter schedule. This includes thorough pre-shift preparation, adherence to timeline, supervision of crew, proper piloting of vessel, adherence to all Coast Guard rules and regulations, and ensuring guest satisfaction.
· Gather pertinent event details from the other departments to ensure special guest requests are fulfilled thereby ensuring complete guest satisfaction.
· Conduct pre-shift meetings and communicate to crew all necessary information regarding the day’s operations (special needs, boarding procedures, etc.)
· Ensure that staff and guests adhere to all safety standards and procedures.
· Conduct a pre-shift walk through of the vessel to ensure all systems are operating properly.
· Participate in Coast Guard required safety drills and crew training.
· Participate in the proper maintenance of all ship’s systems and boarding facilities including but not limited to gangways, diesel, hydraulic, electrical, water (potable, raw, black, and gray), fire suppression, communications, and navigation
· Ensure adherence to Coast Guard rules and regulations, and other federal and local rules and regulations
· Plan and safely execute vessel transits to and from away docks for charters
· Execute other projects as assigned by management
Guest Service
· Ensure that crew provides consistently outstanding guest service.
· Conduct regular inspections of the passenger area ensure cleanliness.
Administration
· Complete all shift records, logbook, payroll, and documentation of safety training
· Promptly report any maintenance issues or vessel deficiencies to management
· Ensure that incident reports are completed accurately and promptly
· Execute collateral duties as assigned by Marine Management: crew training, safety training, and routine vessel maintenance
· Attend all scheduled meetings
Job Specifications / qualifications:
· High school diploma or equivalent preferred
· Must currently possess U.S. Coast Guard 100 GT Master license with a satisfactory record
· Minimum of five (5) years of marine experience—preferably to include two (2) years as a captain with an outstanding record
· Detailed working knowledge of all ship’s systems and their proper maintenance: gangways, diesel, hydraulic, electrical, water (potable, raw, black, and gray), fire suppression, communications, and navigation
· Must be able to operate vessel in accordance with all Coast Guard rules and procedures
· Vessel handling and navigation knowledge of the Miami area required
· Able to communicate effectively in oral and written form
· Able to effectively deal with internal and external guests some of whom will require high levels of patience tact and diplomacy
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
· Ability to analyze and solve problems
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities/tasks
· Satisfactory comprehensive background check
· Per DOT regulations, must submit to pre-employment and ongoing random drug and alcohol testing
· Per USCG regulations, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Working Conditions
· Ability to work outdoors in an environment with various weather conditions such as heat.
· Ability to stand on your feet for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
· Ability to carry a 5-gallon oil bucket up and down a ladder.
· Flexible work schedule – to include nights, weekends, and holidays.
