Overview: A Medical Assistant/X-Ray Technician (Basic Machine Operator) is a skilled healthcare professional who specializes in both medical assistance and the operation of X-Ray technology. This role combines clinical responsibilities, patient care, and expertise in conducting X-rays scans.
Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
1. Patient Care:
o Greet patients, obtain their medical histories, and record vital signs.
o Assist providers and nurses during patient examinations and procedures.
o Administer medications, treatments, and injections as directed.
o Educate patients on X-ray scan procedures.
2. X-Ray Operation:
o Operate X-ray machines following established protocols.
o Ensure accurate patient positioning and alignment for X-ray scans.
o Monitor and adjust imaging parameters for optimal image quality.
o Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot X-ray equipment to ensure accuracy and functionality.
o Ensure patient safety and comfort during the imaging process.
3. Administrative Tasks:
o Schedule patient appointments, manage/coordinate patient flow.
o Maintain accurate patient records, including X-ray results, as well as demographic and medical information.
o Follow strict HIPAA guidelines to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality.
4. Quality Assurance:
o Monitor and maintain the quality and accuracy of X-ray scans.
o Collaborate with providers to ensure timely reporting of imaging results.
o Follow established radiation safety protocols to protect patients, staff, and self from unnecessary radiation exposure.
5. Infection Control:
o Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain a sterile environment in the X-ray areas.
o Sterilize and maintain equipment, ensuring compliance with sanitation standards.
6. Professional Development:
o Stay updated with the latest advancements in X-ray technology and medical assisting techniques.
o Attend relevant training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
o Maintain required certifications and licenses.
Qualifications:
o High school diploma or equivalent.
o Minimum of 3-5 relevant experience.
o Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred, but not required.
o Certification in relevant radiologic training (e.g., X-ray technologist).
o Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology.
o Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
o Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems.
o Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
o Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
o CPR certification may be required.
