About Western Landowners Alliance (WLA): Founded in 2012 by landowners and managers, the organization aims to increase the wellbeing of working lands in the American West and the living communities, including human and wildlife, that depend on them.

About Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts (WACD): The organization represents Wyoming's 34 conservation districts and their 170 elected Board members. WACD was founded on the philosophy that conservation decisions should be made at the local level with technical and funding assistance from federal, state and local governments and the private sector. As the statewide voice for all conservation districts, WACD supports voluntary, incentive-driven natural resource conservation programs that benefit all citizens.

About Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition (WY GLCI): The Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition (WY GLC) will be a rancher-led coalition, providing a space for collaboration with other organizations, agencies, and private industry to promote sound management of Grazing Lands as the foundation of the ranching industry and for all their adapted uses and multiple benefits to the environment and society. A strong emphasis will be placed on management strategies to improve resiliency, including climate-smart grazing systems. The WY GLC will build on the experience of diverse stakeholders to implement a multi-year strategy to enhance rancher relationships, technical resources, and on-the-ground projects.

Position Overview: The Wyoming Grazing Lands Coordinator will lead efforts to develop a formal strategy that identifies and prioritizes durable pathways for the delivery of technical assistance and education on ecologically and economically beneficial strategies for the stewardship of Grazing Lands in Wyoming. This position is being supported by WLA on behalf of WACD, the convener of the Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition.

Amount of Time & Status: 40 hours a week, exempt, Monday-Friday. This position is currently funded for two years. Extension of the position will be dependent upon securing ongoing coordination capacity support.

Location: This position is remote with preference of residency in Wyoming. Periodic travel within and out of the State will be required.

Reports to: The position is supported by WLA's Western Grazing Lands Coalition Manager as part of WLA's Working Lands Program Team, with oversight from WACD.
Compensation: Salary is up to $66,000 annually, depending on experience. Western Landowners Alliance offers comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off and other benefits.

Duties/Responsibilities Include:

  • In partnership with members of the newly formed Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition, develop and implement a formal strategy that identifies and prioritizes durable pathways for the delivery of technical assistance and education on ecological and economically beneficial strategies for the stewardship of Grazing Lands in Wyoming
  • Provide knowledge and experience in soil health and grazing management within WY rangeland systemsto WY GLC and other partnership efforts
  • Facilitate knowledge-exchange and continued learning on climate-smart grazing strategies to address drought resiliency, invasive species, wildfire risk and recovery, and other local resource concerns
  • Coordinate with Indian Nations Conservation Alliance to support outreach and technical assistance to tribal partners and Grazing Lands managers, and engage them in the Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition leadership and strategic planning
  • Lead planning, outreach, and delivery of opportunities designed to engage diverse practitioners, students, and other stakeholders in Grazing Lands stewardship
  • On behalf of the Wyoming Grazing Lands Coalition participate in a West-wide Grazing Lands network to address common challenges and empower collaborative conservation opportunities at a western region scale
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and 2-3 years minimum of relevant work experience or equivalent comprehensive work experience required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build and maintain positive working relationships
  • Knowledge of current rangeland ecosystem and grazing management principles, concepts, and theories
  • Strong understanding of federal and state programs that promote conservation on Grazing Lands (including Farm Bill programs), is required
  • Experience with collaborative and strategic planning, is preferred
  • Adaptable and able to move work forward within complex political and multi-jurisdictional landscapes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented, strong independent work ethic; and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment
  • Successful grant writing experience, is preferred
  • Ability to distill complex subject matter to any audience for comprehension
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom and other virtual meeting platforms
  • Creative and positive approach to communication and problem solving
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required
  • Willingness and ability to maintain confidential information and work with diverse populations

Working Environment/Physical Activities: Work environment is an office and field setting. Physical activities include sitting at a desk and working on a keyboard and computer several hours a day; conducting business over the telephone and via email; standing for long periods of time; periodic travel, and traveling long distances by vehicle (including traveling on unpaved roads). This position may also require moving materials up to 25 pounds.
