JOB TITLE: Workshop Facilitator

DIVISION: Adult Services

DEPARTMENT: Detroit At Work Career Center (Reentry Services)

LOCATION: NWAC

REPORTS TO: ReentryCenter Manager

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt/Hourly

CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time Regular

JOB SUMMARY: Performs responsible job search training activities in a classroom setting that provides Detroit At Work Career Center customers with the ability to effectively seek employment. Implements essential skills workshop curricula and provides instruction for NRF Rise Up! micro-credential program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Designs and facilitates career development and life skills workshops including self-assessment, goal setting, workplace conduct and appearance, resume writing, job search strategies, networking, interviewing and other related subjects.
  2. Supervises the administration of career and job readiness assessment instruments, including CASAS, Career Scope, and NRF Rise Up! exams.
  3. Modifies curriculum and materials as required to meet individual and program needs.
  4. Utilizes a variety of teaching resources to develop customers’ knowledge of subject area.
  5. Monitors and evaluates progress of customers and prescribes corrective plans when necessary.
  6. Prepares and maintains current and accurate accounting of customer participation using sign-in sheets and Launchpad event attendance tools.
  7. Maintains a warm atmosphere where customers feel cared and welcome.
  8. Maintains a functional knowledge of economic and job market trends and demands and incorporates knowledge into job readiness training modules.
  9. Assists with intake/orientation activities.
  10. Demonstrates in-depth understanding of the unique challenges and barriers faced by the justice involved residents of the City of Detroit.
  11. Contributes to the team effort by performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. A minimum educational requirement of an Associates’ degree from an accredited college or university.
  2. Must have technical proficiency needed to help participants access electronic learning modules and assessment scores, while providing minor technical assistance or IT seeking support.
  3. Experience with adult learners in a nontraditional environment desired.
  4. Knowledge and understanding of instructional and classroom techniques.
  5. Knowledge of basic education principles, practices and techniques for adult learning.
  6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  7. Ability to lesson plan and organize effectively.
  8. Must possess and provide a valid Michigan Driver's License. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and have access to reliable transportation.
  9. Must be able to pass a security clearance for Michigan Department of Corrections and Wayne County Jail facilities.
  10. Bilingual language skills English/Spanish are a plus, but not required.

Special Requirements:

Must be able to pass a LEIN security clearance and any necessary background screening to be granted access to MDOC correctional facilities and the Wayne County Criminal Justice Center.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, stand, sit and talk or hear. Some filing is required which would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. - The noise level in the work environment is at times, moderately loud with little discomfort due to noise, dirt, dust and the like. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photo copiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
