WORKERS COMPENSATION

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Workers Compensation (WC) Specialist works under the general supervision of the Manager of Associate Health Services and is responsible for administering claims under the UW Health WC Program. The position maintains close communication with the Associate Health Services (AHS), Human Resources (HR), Risk Management (RM), Safety and Legal departments to assist with the assessment of injured employees and to facilitate their safe return to work.
This position is privy to confidential information such as confidential medical and personnel information in addition to working with information regarding actual or potential individual and group safety and work-related health problems. This information must be kept strictly confidential
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Minimum:
Associate’s degree in business, human resources or related field. 2 years of
relevant experience in workers’ compensation administration or case
management may be considered in lieu of an Associate’s degree in addition to the experience below.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in business, human resources, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
Three (3) years of experience in WC related employment.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a healthcare environment preferred.
- Familiarity with WC insurance/claims handling preferred.
- Experienced and comfortable presenting educational material to diverse audiences preferred.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Computer skills including spreadsheet, word processing, and database experience
- Strong problem solving and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and to interact with staff, department managers, and medical faculty on sensitive clinical practice issues
- Ability to plan and organize training programs
- Ability to communicate in an empathetic manner with injured employees
