Summary: This is an intern position. The Claims Intern will learn about New York state workers’ compensation insurance and the fundamentals of claims handling. The Worker’s Compensation Claims Intern will utilize training, our Claims guidelines, and systems tools to assist adjusters, answer customer/claimant questions, manage incident only claims, and learn the foundations of Claims Adjusting.
Knowledge of the workers’ compensation rules regulations, laws, and procedures are not a pre-requisite.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist Claims Adjusters & VP of Claims with handling of active claims, including but not limited to filing claims documents in the claimant’s case files; making phone calls; reviewing files and completing claim diaries
- Open new work-related incidents and claims in the claims administrative system
- Communicate with Claims Adjusters regarding new and existing claims
- Verify claim information including but not limited to: Contacting employers for claim information
- Process First and Subsequent Report of Injury forms based on claim information
- Review and process invoices from vendors
- Processing and mailing checks with attachments to injured workers, medical providers, and vendors
- Support and collaborate with existing claims team
- Perform other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities
- Intermediate/advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
- Working knowledge of remainder of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Self-Starter with Ability to multitask, follow-up, and work within a deadline
- Must be able to learn and work within a team structure
- Must be able to learn and work with multiple web-based programs or systems
- Must be able to work in New York Tribeca Office
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- None
Education and/or Experience:
- 1 year of client-facing or customer service experience is preferred
- Rising senior of a four year university preferred

The hourly rate for this position is $20.00 per hour. The base salary offered will be determined by factors including, but not limited to, experience, credentials, education, certifications, skill level required for the position, the scope of the position, and geographic location. Actual base salary offered will be determined on a case-by-case basis. In addition to the base salary, this position may be eligible for performance-based incentives.
