THE NEED
DUAL OPPORTUNITY
To fill a current vacancy, 8 hours per day, 210 days per year in the Special Education Department, and to establish an eligibility list to fill future vacancies.
THE POSITION
Below is a summary of the basic function of the position and scope of responsibilities. Under the direction of the assigned Executive Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services, perform a variety of specialized duties involved in assisting students in developing vocational plans and securing appropriate jobs in the community; monitor, evaluate and provide technical assistance in developing student vocational and job searching skills to facilitate and enhance school-to-career transition. Consult with the Executive Director of Special Education and Pupil Personnel Services on matters related to the operational execution of the Work-Based Learning and Workability Program.
THE CANDIDATE
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education, training and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or equivalent, supplemented by college level coursework in psychology, social science, counseling, human resources or related field, and three years experience working with vocational, job placement or related services including work with special education students.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid California driver's license. (must be attached to application in order to move forward in recruitment)
THE DETAILS
Step 1: Application screening (pass/fail) Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications. An initial application screening is tentatively scheduled for the week of January 22nd, 2024. Applications will be evaluated and ranked according to criteria that most closely meets the needs of the department, so it is essential that applicants provide as much detail as possible and answer all parts of the application, including work experience and the supplemental questionnaire. If there is a high number of qualified applicants, a comparative screening will be conducted to determine which of the applicants will be selected for invitation to the qualification appraisal interview. (If applicants do not possess 48 units of college or an associates degree or higher, they will be required to take and pass a proficiency exam).
Step 2: Qualification Appraisal Interview (weighted 100%)is tentatively scheduled for the week of January 29th, 2024. Applicants must achieve a passing score in each part of the examination process in order to be placed on the eligibility list.
ADDITIONAL SALARY INFORMATION:
Step 1: $25.10 per hour
Step 2: $26.53 per hour
Step 3: $28.05 per hour
Step 4: $29.64 per hour
Step 5: $31.33 per hour
New Hires - Initial Salary Placement
The District has established criteria in place that recognizes the education and experience new employees bring to their role in supporting students and the services of the District. Upon approval of the Director of Classified Human Resources, a new employee may be provided with advanced step placement up to Step 5 based on the following criteria:
  • Additional qualifying experience beyond that required for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of experience related to the classification)
  • Additional education at the college level beyond the educational requirements established for entry into the class (limited to no more than one step for each two years of education related to the position)

All new hires placed at Step 1 of the salary schedule will advance to Step 2 after successfully completing the six-month probationary period.
Longevity increments are offered based on years of service with the District: an additional 1.20% of base salary after completing 4 years of service, 4.10% at 9 years, 7.08% at 14 years, 10.15% at 19 years, 13.31% at 24 years, 16.46% at 29 years.
Education Incentives
All active, regular classified employees are eligible for an education incentive if they possess a college degree which is related to their classification and is above and beyond the stated minimum qualifications for their classification.
AA/AS = 2.50%
BA/BS = 2.75%
MA/MS = 3.00%
Ed.D./Ph.D/JD = 3.25%

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (Upon Offer of Employment)
  • Employment Verification: The Immigration Reform and Control Act requires that the District obtain documentation from every individual who is employed which verifies identity and authorizes his/her right to work in the United States.
  • Individuals selected for employment are required to submit to a tuberculosis risk assessment, and, if risk factors are identified, would then be required to submit to a tuberculosis examination to determine freedom from tuberculosis.
  • The District reserves the right to require a job related physical examination and satisfactory results from such an exam.
  • Fingerprinting: State law requires that all employees be fingerprinted. AB1610 prohibits employment until the Department of Justice completes its obligations regarding the arrest and conviction information, and from employing a person who has been convicted of a violent or serious felony, as defined.
  • All candidates with a conviction record for offenses other than minor traffic violations, must file a conviction record statement with their application. Such a conviction, or failure to report a record of convictions, may bar you from employment.

INSURANCE
Available to employees who work at least 20 hours per week. Choice of PPO or HMO, Dental and Vision. Premiums paid by the District (includes employee and eligible family members) based on regular weekly hours worked:
20.00-29.99 hours per week; district pays 50% of benefits
30.00-39.99 hours per week; district pays 75% of benefits
40.00 hours per week; district pays 100% of benefits
HOLIDAYS
Approximately 14 paid holidays per year.
VACATION
Vacation is earned based on assigned hours. (For example: a new employee working 8 hours/day, 12-months per year will earn one vacation day per month, up to a total of twelve (12) days of vacation per
year. Employees who work less than 12-months per year or less than 8 hours/day shall be entitled to a prorated share of vacation benefits as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement.) Vacation earned increases with years of service with the district.
SICK LEAVE
The district provides for 1 day of illness leave per month worked, with unlimited accumulation for unused days.
