Summary/Objective
Administer, maintain, and manage various natural community habitats and landscapes on state- owed conservation areas for the benefit of targeted species and other wildlife and for recreational use by Missouri citizens.
Essential Job Duties
  • Coordinate management activities of multiple landscapes, habitats, and target species on managed lands.
  • Act as subject matter expert on District Coordination Team (DCT) regarding wildlife and natural community management. Also, answering questions regarding wildlife, wildlife habitat and natural community management, and regulations for the public.
  • Plan, implement, and supervise natural community management projects and wildlife habitat enhancement projects using various tools including GIS applications and various habitat inventory and assessment processes on state-owned conservation areas.
  • Develop an annual work plan in cooridnation with other discipline experts within DCT and as directed by district superivors, unit supervisor, and regional planner. Ensures annaul work plan are aligned to the MDC Strategic Plan, follows direction provided in Comprehensive Conservation Strategy (CCS) and associated supporting documents of tiered approaches to habitat and invasive species management. Measures, records, and documents management projects for accomplishment reporting purposes.
  • Conduct habitat appraisals and evaluations and make improvement recommendations.
  • Respond to wildlife management issues, questions, and concerns.
  • Provide technical assistance to landowners and other land managers.
  • Prepare grant requests.
  • Monitor wildlife populations and habitat use on conservation areas.
  • Administer public land contracts.
  • Host training classes, workshops, field trips, and special events.
  • Participate in budgeting and forecasting activities and monitor spending compliance.
  • Assist with agency wide directives for habitat planning and population monitoring.

Ancillary Job Duties
  • Serve on internal and external regular and special committees.
  • Participate in CWD Mandatory Sampling and winter culling activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Wildlife Science, Forestry, Agriculture, or related.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in Wildlife, Forestry or Fisheries work.
  • Wildlife Biologist certification, preferred
  • Must maintain a current, valid driver's license.
  • Ability to attain Commercial Pesticide Applicator's License within 6 months of initial employment.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to adapt to a variety of job situations involving long hours, hazardous conditions and difficult circumstances.
  • Ability to operate ½-ton truck and burning equipment.
  • Ability to conduct special conservation programs to special interest groups and the general public.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight.
  • Ability to work varying hours and shifts.

Work Environment
  • Work is performed in a standard office environment.
  • Occasionally perform outdoors where hot, cold, wet and/or humid conditions exist.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noises which may require the use of hearing protection.

Physical Abilities
  • Move about grounds, both inside and outside of buildings.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information.
  • Clarity of vision and three-dimensional vision.
  • Regularly lift up to 5 pounds, correctly lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
