Bi-weekly Salary:
WIC Coordinator I: $2,066.84 - $2,267.20
WIC Coordinator II: $2,164.56 - $2,374.98
The Del Norte County Department of Health & Human Services is seeking a qualified candidate to fill one (1) vacancy for the position of WIC Coordinator I/II. This position is classified as Full-Time.
Under direction, supervises and trains staff, coordinates clinic schedules and events, and provides programmatic oversight, including monitoring and coordinating service delivery to clients, assisting in the design and implementation of new services, acting as liaison between the program and community to ensure high quality services, and providing accountability of clinic cash receipts and/or vouchers.
Detailed Work Activities
Essential job duties may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. The list that follows is not intended as a comprehensive list; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed, and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.
  • Collaborates with WIC Leadership Team to supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
  • Coordinates clinic schedules and event, including staffing, days and hours of operation, participant accessibility, and WIC clinic flow issues.
  • Provides programmatic oversight, including monitoring and coordinating service delivery to clients.
  • Leads or coordinates training of staff, assist in the design and implementation of new services, act as a liaison between the program and the clients to ensure high quality services.
  • Provide accountability of clinic cash receipts and/or vouchers.
  • Works to increase access of hard-to-reach populations to Department services and assists in increasing the cultural competency of staff and the Department as an organization.
  • Participates in the planning and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Serve as the Breastfeeding Coordinator to oversee the breastfeeding portion of the Nutrition Services Plan and all breastfeeding activities of the local WIC agency.
  • Network with other health professionals and community organizations to promote and support breastfeeding in the community.
  • Prepares and maintains accurate and timely reports and other documentation of WIC program activities.
  • Maintains current knowledge of health education topics and issues related to the WIC program and recommends improvements as appropriate.
  • Attends training, workshops and continuing education classes as required or appropriate.
  • Initiates and/or responds to contact with clients; determines eligibility; educates clients regarding various health services and recommends other sources of services for those not eligible.
  • Performs general administrative/office work as required, including but not limited to copying and filing documents, preparing/typing documents, answering the telephone, faxing information, entering computer data, attending meetings, ordering supplies, maintaining office cleanliness, etc.
  • Performs related duties as necessary and required.

Minimum Qualifications
Any combination of education, training and experience which would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:
WIC Coordinator I: College coursework that includes 30 semester units or training specific to maternal, infant, and childhood nutrition, principles of nutrition education and counseling education; OR Three (3) years of full-time WIC experience; OR Four (4) years of full-time experience in a closely related, community nutrition program. Incumbent must meet the training requirements as the Breastfeeding Coordinator per the California WIC Policy and Procedure Manual within one (1) year of employment. Related supervisory experience is also desirable.
WIC Coordinator II: In addition to the requirements for the WIC Coordinator I, a minimum of one (1) year experience performing the duties comparable to a WIC Coordinator I and is a Certified Lactation Educator, Certified Lactation Counselor, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant or other certifications approved by CDPH/WIC.
Special Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's license.
All County of Del Norte employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through State law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County of Del Norte requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Work related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.

Requires:
Knowledge of:

  • Federal and state WIC program policies and procedures.
  • Basic nutrition terminology routinely used in reports and evaluations.
  • Comprehensive Perinatal Services Program requirements.
  • Principles of good nutrition and proper nutrition habits for various stages of life cycles.
  • Effective public presentations which includes both oral and visual aids.
  • The principals of interviewing and problem solving methodology.
  • Clerical practices and procedures.

Ability to:
  • Apply education principles and practices as they apply to assigned programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with representatives of other agencies, co-workers, and the general public.
  • Compile, analyze and display data.
  • Operate data processing equipment for successful performance of duties.
  • Interact with participants in a customer-friendly and culturally appropriate manner.
  • Work weekends, evenings, or other hours necessary to present programs to various groups and the public.

Selection Process:

Paid annual leave:
Vacation:
1-5 years of continuous service: 10 working days per year; 6-10 years of continuous service: 15 working days per year; 11-15 years of continuous service: 20 working days per year; 16 years or higher of continuous service: 25 working days per year. Note - Vacation will be available for use after completion of six (6) months of continuous employment.
Sick Leave:
1 day of sick leave with pay for each month of service from the date of employment. Note - Sick leave may be used upon accrual.
Holidays:
13 working days each year.
Floating Holidays:
3 working days each fiscal year. Note - Floating Holidays may be used upon accrual.
Retirement:
The County is a member of the Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS) integrated with Social Security.
Group Insurance:
The County pays a portion of the employee's group health, dental, and life insurance premiums with dependent health and dental care benefits available at group rates.
