Job description

Whole Family Program Coordinator

Raise The Barr is a 2Gen program led by a 2Gen team on a mission to maximize the potential of every individual.

Co-Founded by NFL linebacker Anthony Barr and his mother Lori Barr in 2016, Raise the Barr is committed to increasing opportunity and economic mobility for single-parent students in Minnesota and California by providing them with the holistic resources they need to complete their education, including resources they need for their children to thrive. Promoting college success among student-parents is critical to improving racial, ethnic, and gender equity in higher education access.

Raise the Barr places single-parent students at the center of our work, and as such identifies every opportunity to elevate their voices in advocacy work and to advise the leadership team.

Position Summary

You will collaborate with and report to the Managing Director of Whole Family Programming, and work with the Whole Family Program team to develop and implement RTB’s programming. The ideal candidate is passionate about equitable access to education for single-parents, thrives on direct interaction with families, and is excited about creating opportunities for single-parent students and their children. They are creative and critical thinkers who are comfortable working in a start-up culture where ambiguity and innovation coexist. Work may be fast paced at times as we continuously look for new opportunities for impact and do our best to respond in real-time to the needs of single-parent students and their children.

Raise The Barr is in a critical stage of growth. We were established in 2016 but only hired our first full-time employees in 2022. This means there is room for growth and an opportunity to help guide the direction and impact of the organization, along with the rest of the RTB team and single-parent students.

This is a hybrid position with some in-person activities. Some non-traditional hours during evenings and weekends to accommodate the scholars' schedules, RTB’s monthly workshops, and special events. We allow some flexibility with your schedule to offset these non-traditional work hours.

Responsibilities

  • Mentor single-parent students in monthly one-on-one virtual meetings.
  • Coach scholars to help identify individual strengths and areas for goal setting to move the household towards economic self-sufficiency.
  • Engage closely with the Managing Director to craft innovative workshop programs, ensuring seamless implementation and occasionally taking the helm as a facilitator.
  • Collaborate on monthly workshops covering social capital, shared experiences, program feedback, and relevant topics (parenting, academics, careers).
  • Support and implement programs focused on degree attainment, family-sustaining careers, housing, financial literacy, mentoring, and overall health.
  • Schedule and organize student-parent group discussions, surveys, and meetups.
  • Coordinate multiple assignments with fluctuating and time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Carry a caseload of up to 30 program participants.
  • Maintain comprehensive and accurate caseload documentation in electronic databases, ensuring timely completion of service records, data management, and program reporting elements.
  • Leverage data to generate reports and presentations for stakeholders, taking a lead role in delivering key findings.
  • Liaison with RTB scholars through regular strength-based communication.
  • Provide expertise on the single-parent student experience for RTB management and for the active RTB scholars.
  • Provide honest and respectful feedback from scholars to RTB management.
  • Initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to remain positive, tactful and composed under pressure.
  • Collaborate with the communications team to prepare strength-based, respectful, and culturally sensitive communication about RTB’s work and scholars.
  • Utilize sound judgment and effective communication in interactions, while seeking support when needed.
  • Participate in weekly team and monthly staff meetings.
  • In collaboration with the Managing Director, delegate work to the Whole Family Program Coordinator Associate.
  • Serve as an enthusiastic RTB local ambassador in the community.
  • Additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree (Social Work, Counseling/Psychology, Education preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience working with families facing poverty.

Essential Skills:

  • Deep commitment to educational equity for single parents.
  • Proven ability to effectively advise individuals and groups on complex issues.
  • Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Initiative, motivation, and excellent organizational/time management abilities.
  • Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse needs and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, with willingness to learn new software.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently while collaborating with the team.
  • As we expand programming, can navigate uncertainty and ambiguity with confidence
  • Maintaining composure and focus while seeking clarity and solutions.

Preferred:

  • Existing connections to community resources.
  • Experience with remote work.
  • 2+ years of experience working with families facing poverty.

We are an Equal Opportunity Employer, and our employees are people with different strengths, experiences and backgrounds, who share a passion for equitable access to post-secondary education and whole-family wellness. Diversity not only includes race and gender identity, but also age, disability status, veteran status, sexual orientation, religion and many other parts of one’s identity.
