Job Title: Whole Family Cook

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Grade: 1

Reporting to: Site Manager

Department: Whole Family

Scope:

Responsible for preparation/distribution of nutritious meals, following all USDA and CACFP

guidelines for Wayne Metro CAA Programs.

Essential Functions

 Adhere to sanitation and safety procedure prescribed by health and safety guidelines i.e.

proper food temperature, storage and preparation guidelines.

 Responsible for efficient satellite kitchen operation.

 Ensure that kitchen operational needs, issues or problems are communicated to Site Manager

and/or in a timely manner.

 Act as primary lead cook in preparing high quality, high quantity nutritional food according to

CACFP and USDA Guidelines.

 Review menus for needed supplies, complete inventory, and work with Food Service

Coordinator to purchase all food and nonfood items.

 Prepare and sort food for delivery to sites

 Develop and test recipes, using portion control methods, including weighing of meals

components

 Work with Management staff and Food Service Coordinator to implement the cycle menu.

 Maintain all required CACFP paperwork; menu production records, inventory, food

temperature logs

 Turn in all required documentation including invoices in a timely manner

 Keep classrooms stocked with materials needed for food service (Paper items) and

distribution and collect used materials for cleaning, sanitation and restocking in a timely

manner.

 Keep kitchen clean and well maintained and notify appropriate staff of any needed repairs.

 May occasionally be required to transport food –Emergency situations

 Execute other specific tasks as assigned: some of which are continuing while others are

occasional in nature.

 Maintain a positive attitude towards assigned work, clients, and staff, and a willingness to

work with others.

 Perform work in a professional manner that upholds Wayne Metro’s policies and procedures.

 Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Food Service Operator: The physical demands described here are representative of those that

must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This job

operates in a kitchen environment, housed with equipment such as an oven, stove, dishwasher,

slicer, and chef’s knives. The employee is frequently exposed to heat, steam, fire and noise. The

employee is occasionally required to sit, stand, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull

items weighing 50 pounds or less. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual

skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures.


Minimum Qualifications:

 High school diploma/general education degree (GED) OR a combination of education and

experience that is similarly equivalent.

 Minimum of two years of experience in large scale food production.

 Sanitation and safety procedures, inventory systems, USDA and other food service

documentation.

 Current ServSafe Certification

 Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional

appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.

 Ability to work with a minimum of supervision.

Minimum Competencies:

 Working knowledge of basic internet applications and programs including Google technology

and Microsoft Office Word and Excel. The ability to learn and utilize the necessary programs

for this position.

 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.

 Good interpersonal and professional skills including but not limited to professional

appearance, tact, punctuality, and dependability.

 Ability to provide services for those persons facing economic, social, health, age, and

educational barriers.

 Ability to work independently or in a team environment (as deemed necessary).

 Perform work in a manner that upholds Wayne Metro policies and procedures.

Licensing and Other Requirements:

 Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Travel Requirements:

 Ability to travel to various sites.

Work Hours:

Work to be scheduled Monday through Friday with specific hours to be determined by program needs.
