PennEngineering is seeking a motivated, excited, individual to be a part of the Field Application Engineering Team in California. As a Western Region FAE Managerat PennEngineering, you'll collaborate with teams that do truly amazing things.
This role requires you to initiate, facilitate and drive various business problem-solving and process re-engineering projects in collaboration with innovative and leading technology clients. This position will also be involved in generating and managing leads on technical requirements from various sources and dealing with potential customers. In this role you will also be responsible for conducting product and technical training for our Customers, Reps, and Distributors.
We consider our Field Application Engineers a critical source of technical support serving as the liaison between the customer and their engineering department and will develop and coordinate the strategic plans for new product concepts and all associated product testing. You will be accountable for making recommendations to improve products, processes, and performance. This position may require the individual to specialize in multiple market segments throughout our successful portfolio such as Micro Products, Panel Fasteners, Aerospace or Automotive/AE. This role requires 30% travel domestically.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  1. Independently utilize engineering principles, training, and knowledge in the execution of duties with emphasis on mechanical problem solving.
  2. As the "voice of the customer" for assigned accounts with our PEM, Atlas, and S.I. products you will manage long term data driven projects. Produce new fastener applications and adoptions.
  3. Maintain a high level of technical competency in all areas relating to designing special products that meet the needs of our customers. This may include metal forming and cutting, plastic molding and assembly. Computer literacy is required to utilize quoting, CAD, and Pro E system tools.
  4. Maintain a high level of awareness in Manufacturing, Quality, NPD, Sales and Marketing disciplines relating to new customer applications.
  5. Makes recommendations to direct supervisor to improve product design, product manufacturability, quoting process and productivity.
  6. High visibility through the efforts to coordinate and collaborate with various functions including but not limited to Sales and Marketing, New Product Development, Manufacturing and Engineering just to name a few of the great teams you will interact with the
  7. Must be able to support, lead and manage a team.
  8. You will also spend your time:

    1. Developing Special quotations
    2. Conducting Product/Technical Presentations
    3. Reviewing designs with Engineering and Manufacturing for approval/suggestions
    4. Creating Pro E drawings
    5. Coordinating application testing/specs with PennEngineering and the customer, rep or distributor.
    6. Product design

Requirements
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology required
  • 5-10 years of engineering design experience required. Experience using 3D modeling software.
  • 2-4 years of management experience required.
  • Must be able to demonstrate the ability to coordinate engineering activities within a sales and marketing function.
  • Effective communication skills including the ability to make presentations internally and externally is necessary. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and maintain professionalism in all interactions with customers and internal teams
  • Proven project leadership ability
  • Successful record of completing Sales / Marketing or Engineering assignments.
  • Must possess a strong working knowledge of the various techniques and materials used in manufacturing mechanical fasteners.
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Power Point).

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to use testing/measurement tools
  • Visual acuity for detailed work
  • Must be able to work in an air-conditioned office environment or shop environment as necessary
