EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
  • BA or BS in Nutrition, Food Science, Health Education, Physical Education/Kinesiology or related field.
  • 2 years relevant experience
Preferred:
  • Registered Dietitian preferred
  • Bilingual/Biliterate
  • Nutrition education experience
  • Media and/or advocacy skills

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective: As part of the Nutrition Services Department, assist Wellness Coordinator with the implementation of school wellness programs throughout Weld County School District 6 (WCSD6) including: student wellness, staff wellness, community partnerships, and other Nutrition Services and wellness related initiatives. Provide onsite school wellness team guidance and support including development, implementation and assessment of each site's School Health Improvement Plan. Oversee implementation of the Student Wellness Policy through directing school wellness teams and chairing the district Student Wellness Committee.
Essential Functions:
  • Manage, coordinate, promote and implement wellness programs with district schools including- nonfood rewards, healthy classroom celebrations, and related activities.
  • Collect, compile, analyze, interpret, and apply data relevant to school wellness programs, including the required student wellness policy assessment for each school.
  • Recruit Student Wellness Team Leaders at all sites. Oversee and support the development and maintenance of School Health Improvement Plans at all sites. Engage with Student Wellness Team Leads across the district and provide onsite support for events such as family wellness nights.
  • Serve as a member of the District 6 Worksite Wellness Committee and ensure alignment with student and staff wellness activities.
  • Assist with the Student Health Advisory Council (SHAC).
  • Coordinate Student Wellness Policy Committee meetings and oversee subcommittee Action Team work. Recruit teachers, staff members, students, parents, and community members to participate as members of the district Student Wellness Policy Committee.
  • Update and monitor the progress of activities in the Student Wellness Policy Implementation Plan to ensure Nutrition Service's compliance with USDA regulations.
  • Work with schools to ensure full implementation of the district Wellness Policy. Research best practices and successful models for school wellness programs.
  • Advocate for student, family and staff wellness with community groups and organizations. Maintain student wellness webpage and social media sites. Ensure that nutrition and wellness programs and resources are marketed to all stakeholders.
  • Represent District 6 on related community committees and participate in training events, meetings, and conference calls as required.
  • Lead and/or assist with grant writing to continue or expand school wellness programs. Develop grant work plans and fulfill reporting documentation to satisfy grant requirements.

Work Environment/ Physical Demands: Ability to sit for long periods of time, numerous distractions, visual, auditory and ambulatory acuity important. Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
