Position Overview
Glass and Metal Craft/CUDA is in Wixom, MI and provides custom fabricated glass and metal products and solutions for architectural applications. Glass and Metal Craft has a metal fabrication division seeking a full-time experienced metal fabricator/welder & Supervisor to become an integral part of our team. Role requires both Supervision of shop floor personnel as well as Welding/Fabrication of projects.
Essential Functions
· Shop Floor Supervisory Role:
o Safety compliance and practices
o Corrective Actions
o ADP approvals / monitoring
o Attendance tracking
o Reviews (30 / 90 / Annual)
o Train and foster a cohesive team to achieve group and company goals.
o Transfer or pick-up supplies & projects as needed from local vendors and main GMC facility.
· Tig-Welder Fabricator:
o Welding and fabrication of custom mild steel, stainless steel, and aluminum assemblies including both production and one-off units. May also include fabrication work on wood and composite materials.
o Must be detail oriented and able to work independently while consistently executing fabrication processes and quality control procedures.
o Must be able to read blueprints to meet product specifications.
o Calculate material measurements to verify specification.
o Utilize Forklift as needed.
o Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends as production and custom projects require.
o Ensure all safety protocols are observed, while maintaining a clean and orderly workspace.
o Communicate with support staff and management on the status of daily tasks and requests.
Required Education, Experience, and Job Requirements
· High School Degree or Equivalent
· Minimum 2-3 years’ experience steel MIG/TIG welding in a shop environment (5 years preferred)
· Minimum 2 years fabrication experience in a shop environment (5 years preferred)
· Computer Skills: MS Office, Email, Knowledge of reading CAD with ability to edit/change documents a plus.
· Degree or certificate in welding technology, preferred
· Experienced with welding tools and procedures
· Experienced with engineering blueprints and schematics
· Experienced with fabrication of 304, 316 stainless steel, Aluminum, & mild steel
· Experienced with stainless steel finishing including #4 and #8 finished
· Must be mechanically inclined
· Must have layout experience
· Machine Fabrication (Vertical Bridgeport, Lathe), Cutting (band saw, manual), Drill and Tap (auto, manual)
· Maintain machines properly
· Optimize material (stock lengths, drops)
· AWS certifications (or equivalent) in GMAW, GTAW preferred, stainless certifications a plus.
· Forklift experience a plus
· Ability to manually lift to 80 pounds
