THE ROLE
Under general supervision, provides recordkeeping, basic customer service and administrative support at truck scales and in office.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
  • Directs trucks to scale and records full and empty weights.
  • Calculates and collects fees and records charges.
  • Compiles record of inbound and outbound material weights by category (such as recyclables).
  • Performs data entry of types of commodities (e.g., green waste, recycled) on loads brought in by trucks; records material weights by category.
  • Inspects and ensures validity of loads.
  • Monitors truck radio; responds in case of emergency or problem.
  • Performs varied office tasks as needed.
  • May be required to operate site equipment.
  • May be required to calculate payment to customers for recycled materials.

For sites that accept hazardous waste materials:
  • Ensures that all materials being accepted are appropriate given stated standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:
  • One year of related experience in office or public contact work.
  • For positions required to operate loaders or other small equipment, experience in operation and maintenance of similar equipment.
  • For positions which will operate loaders or other small equipment, commercial driver's license is preferred.
  • Principles and practices of job site safety, potential job hazards, and state and local regulations.
  • Basic computer programs as well as simple match calculations to make change.
  • Common procedures and general Company operations, following established methods and standing instructions.
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.

Skills and / or Ability to:

  • Work under pressure, handle stressful situations and maintain flexibility.
  • Maintain high levels of activity or productivity; operating with effectiveness, and determination over extended periods of time.
  • Understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Consistently build knowledge and expertise about current job.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors and customers.
  • Communicate on a two-way radio or similar device.
