Position Summary
This paid student position supports the daily operations of the Westminster University website (westminsteru.edu) using a content management system (Omni CMS) and other related software. Responsibilities may be catered to individual interests and strengths, but students in this position will support a variety of website tasks and projects, growing their skillsets and portfolios for post-graduation careers. A consistent schedule during regular business hours is required in order to work closely with web team staff. This position can be paid through work study funding.

  • Ability and desire to learn new skills quickly

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in a content management system (CMS) like WordPress
  • Prior experience with digital/website content writing
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, or JavaScript
  • Familiarity with Adobe Photoshop
  • Communication, Computer Science, or Marketing major

Web Content
Description
  • Create and update website content using a content management system
  • Write and edit website content with attention to conciseness, readability, and search engine optimization
  • Follow Westminster's guidelines for brand, accessibility, and writing styles (Chicago Manual of Style)
  • Support the university's storytelling efforts through website content
  • Develop an understanding of writing for multiple audiences
  • Add and update files hosted on the website
  • Assist with copy editing and checking accessibility in institutional handbook PDFs

Description
  • Design and update webpages using a standard set of templates and layout options within a content management system
  • Edit and implement photos for the website, including creating image size sets for responsiveness
  • Write and edit HTML, JavaScript, CSS Bootstrap, PHP, jQuery, and/or XSL
  • Follow Westminster's guidelines around brand, accessibility, and usability best practices
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and fix issues with website design, development, accessibility, search engine optimization, and responsive design
  • Create and maintain web team documentation and inventories

  • Use GA4 to collect and analyze website data including page visits, user flows, and search performance
  • Create data dashboards in GA4 for streamlined reporting
  • Assist with developing, administering, and evaluating user tests and surveys
  • Implement Google Tag Manager into webpages

Description
  • Ensure all web content, design, and development follow WCAG 2.1 AA standards
  • Run an accessibility checker on files hosted on the website and make necessary changes
  • Review accessibility reports in the content management system and make necessary changes

  • Assist with updating content, design, and development to meet SEO best practices

Description
The Office of Marketing, Communication, and Events regularly collaborates across teams within the department, which allows student employees the opportunity to engage in cross-disciplinary work. Student employees will be expected to assist members of the Office of Marketing, Communication, and Events on an as-needed basis. Examples of additional duties as assigned include, but are not limited to:
  • Writing stories for the Westminster website
  • Setting up events
  • Helping with social media
  • Participating in photoshoots
