About Houston-Galveston Area Council
The Houston-Galveston Area Council is one of the largest regional planning commissions in the country with a diverse service area of 13 counties and more than7million people. We are the pulse of our region addressing issues that cross city limits and county lines every single day.
We make decisions that affect our transportation system, ensure the safety and well-being of our seniors, connect people to jobs, help families recover from natural disasters, preserve water quality for our children, and so much more. We work to make the region a great place to live, work, and thrive.
What will I bedoing?
ü Managing all Website Content requests as it pertains to written copy, videos, photos, submission forms, documents/attachments, etc.
ü Providing strategic guidance for all requested updates and act as an advisor to departments on best practices for utilizing the website based on desired project outcomes and goals.
ü Collaborating with fellow communications department team members to provide website-related support on projects as needed.
ü Performing regularly scheduled audits of each section of the website with various subject matter experts to ensure all information is current and within best practices.
ü Overseeing the news and media editorial section of the website with assistance from the writer/editor.
ü Researching and leading efforts to incorporate new website features and technology to better serve website visitors.
ü Serving as the content lead for any future redesigns of h-gac.com and other existing sites owned by the agency
KeyQualifications
ü Effective interpersonal skills with the desire to work with a diverse group of internal and external partners
ü Enjoy providing support to agency departments and helping others with their communication requests with a customer service attitude
ü Demonstrate the ability to collaborate with team members and other agency staff to complete timelines and projects
ü Comfortable with being flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment and adhering to fast and impromptu deadlines
ü Intermediate to advanced level of expertise utilizing content management systems, specifically Kentico
ü Ability to copywrite and edit information provided from various sources
ü Understanding of user experience and web accessibility fundamentals
ü A basic, working understanding of HTML
ü Experience utilizing best practices for SEO (search engine optimization)
Do you have...
ü Bachelor's degree in an applicable academic discipline orrelatedfield of study
ü 3 years of experienceworking with local government, nonprofit programs, schools, or in job-related duties.
